I started to learn Latin dance three months ago at my school''s dance club. I just wanted to exercise, but the activity gradually became one of my hobbies.

When I was asked if I would like to compete with dancers from other local schools at the upcoming Orange Blossom Ball, I refused at first. But then a second thought hit me. I would not dance to compete, but to experience what it felt like to dance with people watching me. I also thought it would encourage me to practice more.

The competition began on a sunny Saturday morning. After watching several rounds, I finally understood the rules of the game. Since there were many groups of dancers in the competition, the judge chose groups to dance. The best would go on to the next round.

When the cha-cha was called, we got on the floor with the other couples and got into position. However, when the music started I was freaked out (惊吓的) for a second, because it was actually not cha-cha music, but rumba music.

I was hesitan(犹豫)t about starting and had to wait for my partner to prompt me. He also whispered to help me count the steps. I slowly calmed down and focused on dancing. As I began to focus on dance gestures like the walk, the spin (旋转) and the turn, my brain cleared and I forgot about everything else. Thanks to my partner, we finished the dance smoothly. We came in fourth in the competition.

43. What do we know from Paragraph 4?

A. The author''s partner changed the music.

B. The author realized that her music was wrong.

C. The author dropped out of the competition.

D. The author was scared to dance in public.

44. What does the underlined word “prompt” mean?

A. Show.?? ?B. Remind. ? ?C. Catch. ?? ?D. Follow.

45. The author felt _____ about the results of the competition.

In my high school, school drills (演习) are held about once every two months without warning. The reason is that the school wants to prepare us for unexpected disasters, like earthquakes and tornadoes (龙卷风). Also, the drills prepare us for events such as shootings or fires.?

The two main drills are for fires and lockdowns.

Every classroom in the school building has a red light in a top corner of the wall. When the school is having a fire drill, the light will turn on. Students must then leave the classroom in an orderly way before leaving the building through a safety exit.

A lockdown drill, the other main drill US schools have, is mainly used to prepare for school shootings, bombings or other forms of terrorism. In a lockdown drill, students in hallways must go into the nearest classroom. All the classrooms must then be locked. Students are told to hide in a corner of the classroom so that anyone outside can''t see them directly.

The classroom lights should all be turned off and the curtains should be drawn. This means that during the drill, the classroom is in complete darkness. The drill lasts between five to 10 minutes.

The point of the drills is to make everyone in the school building familiar with what to do in an emergency (紧急情况). Drills are also useful for testing whether escape routes (路线) are effective. It is clearly a good thing to be prepared ahead of a disaster.

Choose the answer:?

46. How many drills does the writer''s high school hold each year?

A. 2 ? ? ? ?B. 4 ? ??C. 6 ? ? ?D. 12

A. They train students to get out of their classrooms quickly.

B. Students practice how to stay safe during an emergency.?

C. Students will get a notice before having a drill.

D. The lights in all school buildings will be turned on during a drill.

48.What''s the meaning of the underlined word “lockdowns”?

A. 锁门 B.封闭 C.防暴 D.消防

49. If students are told to hide in a corner of a dark classroom, they are having _____.?

A. a shooting drill B. a fire drill

C. an earthquake drill D. a tornado drill

50. What is the last paragraph mainly about?

? ?A. What students think about drills. B. Why drills are necessary.?

? ?C. How drills can be improved.? ?D. How students can prepare for drills.?

I was born and raised in Hawaii, where I learned to appreciate and respect a diversity (多样性) of cultures as a member of its very successful Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) community. Most of my classmates stayed in Hawaii for college or went to schools on the West Coast, but I decided to broaden my horizons by attending Purdue University in Indiana. While there, I discovered I was a minority(少数) – something I had never experienced back home.

Being a minority for the first time, I felt like an outsider. My ideas, interests and values were often considered not as important as my heritage (传统). After sharing an alternate point of view, I would often hear: “What do you know? You''re from Hawaii.” These answers finally stopped me from telling where I was from.

That summer I went home to work for a political organization in Honolulu, where I discovered a love for working on laws. Slowly, my pride in my heritage came back.?

I returned to Purdue with a newfound love for my background. I decided to share my culture with everyone I could and, after I did, I found people were more willing to hear my ideas. I changed my major to political science and decided I wanted to be a civil servant (公务员).

I''m still young and have much to learn, but I will always remain proud of my heritage. It has shaped the person I am today and will continue to do so for the rest of my life. I''ve also learned to be more inclusive and patient. I will make sure to provide a safe space for people to express their ideas and backgrounds without fear of being left out.

51. Why did the writer attend a university in Indiana?

A. To get a better education.? B. To make more friends.

C. To appreciate the scenery.? D. To broaden his horizons. ? ??

52. How did the writer feel at first after moving to Indiana?

A. Upset. ? ?B. Happy. ? C. Excited. ? D. Tired.?

53.How many places did the writer stayed in the passage?

54. Put the following sentences in the correct order according to the passage.

① The writer changed his major to political science.
