4）形容词词组（adjective phrase）。比如：

The brothers came back merry and gay.

兄弟俩回来后都结婚了，很愉快、很欢乐。

[解析] merry and gay是形容词词组，作状语。

5）副词词组（adverb phrase）。比如：

How often do the buses run?

公共汽车多久一班?

[解析] How often是副词词组，作状语。

She is a scoundrel through and through.

她是个彻头彻尾的无赖。

[解析] through and through是副词词组，作状语。

scoundrel /'skaʊndr(ə)l/ n. 恶棍, 坏蛋

6）介词词组（prepositional phrase）。比如：

We are of a mind.

我们大家一条心。

[解析] of a mind是介词词组，作表语。

What is there on the desk?

桌子上放着什么？

[解析] on the desk是介词词组，作地点状语。

7）数词词组（numeral phrase）。比如：

Three and three is six.

3加3等于6。

[解析] Three and three是数词词组，作主语。

Jim has five hundred and fifty dollars.

杰姆有550美元。

[解析] five hundred and fifty dollars是数词词组，作宾语。

有些短语含有两部分，一部分是逻辑主语，另一部分是逻辑谓语，这种词组叫做复合结构（compound consruction）。比如：

It’s necessary for us to learn English well.

我们有必要学好英语。

[解析]for us逻辑主语+to learn English well逻辑谓语=复合结构。其中for介词+us逻辑主语=逻辑主语，是介词词组，to动词不定式符号+learn动词原形（作谓语）+English名词（作宾语）+well副词（作状语）=逻辑谓语，是动词不定式词组。

Do you remember me/my asking you that question?

你还记得我问你的问题吗？

Dinner (being) ready, the hostess asked her guests to be seated.

晚餐准备好了，女主人让客人入座。
