It's the fourth time that Barca were rewarded the premier honor of the European clubs competition. Pedro Rodriuez put Josep Guardiola's team ahead with a low shot after 27 minutes, breaking the stalemate, but United striker Wayne Rooney returned fire, finding the back of the net with a goal in the 34th minute. Barca dominated the second half. A swift shot by Lionel Messi gave them the lead again in the 54th minute, and David Villa added a third with 21 minutes to go. Messi was awarded the most valuable player after the match.

>Droughts trigger worries of higher CPI for May
干旱或致五月CPI创新高 Soaring vegetable prices amid China's worst droughts in half a century have triggered worries that inflation will climb to a new high in May, Xinhua reported. The average prices of 20 kinds of vegetables being monitored rose 18.84 percent this week from the previous week, according to figures from the Baishazhou Market in Wuhan, capital of drought-hit Hubei Province. Things are nearly the same for areas outside the drought-affected regions as well. Leaf vegetables such as cabbage, rape and celery saw price hikes for the two weeks ending May 22, according to a National Bureau of Statistics report released Tuesday. Cabbage prices gained 11.9 percent, rape went up 16.4 percent and celery surged 11.6 percent. Food accounts for about 30 percent of the CPI, while vegetables represent about 20 percent of the food category. Huachuang Securities raised its forecast for year-on-year CPI growth in May from 5.4 percent to 5.5 percent, a 34-month high.

>Fukushima plant not ready for typhoon
台风逼近 福岛核站堪忧 Japan's crippled Fukushima nuclear plant is not fully prepared to deal with violent storms, officials admitted Saturday, as the country braced for Typhoon Songda to hit, AFP reported. The typhoon, packing gusts up to 216 km/h near its center, could hit Tokyo as early as Monday. It has already brought heavy rain to the Fukushima region, prompting worries that runoff water may wash away radioactive materials from land into the Pacific Ocean. Tokyo Electric Power Co. (TEPCO) has been pouring synthetic resins over the complex to prevent radioactive deposits from being swept away by winds or rain. A TEPCO spokesman said workers were mulling ways to continue their work during storms. In addition, a report released Saturday reveals that radiation up to several hundred times normal levels has been detected on the seabed near the nuclear plant.

The death toll in Germany from an outbreak of E.coli spread by infected cucumbers has risen to 10, BBC reported. The cucumbers, believed to have been imported from Spain, were infected with a potentially lethal strain of E.coli that can cause hemolytic-uremic syndrome (HUS), a disease characterized by kidney failure and damage to the central nervous system. Most of the cases have been in the area around Hamburg. HUS cases have also been reported in Sweden, Denmark, the Netherlands and the UK – linked to German travel. Hundreds of people are said to have fallen sick. Spain has announced restrictions on two suspected exporters. A six-liter bottle of 1961 Chateau Latour wine has sold to a Chinese bidder for 135,000 pounds at Christie's auction house in London, BBC reported. The sum was more than three times the expected price. It would take someone earning the average UK wage more than five years to save up for the bottle. Chateau Latour, made in Bordeaux, France, is considered one of the top five wines produced in the region. The fine wine market has been booming in London despite the economic slowdown. It has been driven partly by an explosion of interest in fine wine from growing economies in the Far East – particularly in China's mainland, Hong Kong and Singapore.

A new study examined the websites of 15 retailers and found that one-third of the clothes marketed to tween girls are sexualized, Today.com reports. Professor Sean Lyons of the University of Guelph in Ontario found that women's predictions of their starting salaries are 14 percent lower than men's predictions. 'Women know that they currently aren't earning as much as men so they enter the workforce with that expectation. Because they don't expect to earn as much, they likely aren't as aggressive when it comes to negotiating salaries,' said Lyons. The study surveyed more than 23,000 Canadian university students.

Consumer Reports tested 22 major brands and found that in general the less you spend, the better quality the cream is. They concluded that the most effective were the creams which cost less than 88 cents per ounce.

Although stretching for just six meters, the walkway possesses three right-angle turning points, easily to render walkers dizzy and prompting one Internet user to ask 'Is this for entertainment?' An official at Guangzhou Metro said the walkway's right-angle turning points comply with national standards and were designed to fit blind people's walking style. Chen Yang, chairman of the Guangzhou Association of the Blind, confirmed there was nothing wrong with the walkway. But an engineering insider said a design of this kind was for saving construction time and building materials.
