hool if it weren’t so dangerous.M: I have a motorbike, but it’s m
ore comfortable to drive my car to work.W: Someday I’ll be able t
o afford a car, until then I’ll be walking. (1)Text 2 M: Don’t to
uch the insect. We need to be careful not to disturb it with our
breath.W: I want to see in detail what its eyes are like.M: The m
icroscope is ready. Put your eye here and you will see. (2)Text 3
M: When we were young, I loved going out to celebrate birthdays.
Now, I’m happy to just have a dinner with you — nothing too speci
al. All our friends are busy anyways.W: I’m getting that way too.
A nice, quiet evening away from the kids is like a gift itself.
(3)Text 4 M: Excuse me, ma’am. Please put away your luggage and t
ake your seat.W: I’m so sorry. I left my glasses at airport secur
ity. I need to go back to get them.M: The plane is already closed
. (4) I’ll call the ticket office and have them look for you.Text
5W: My dad wants me to work at a hospital, but seeing blood scar
es me.M: My dad’s job at the fire department is so great, but it
seems so stressful. W: I’d love to help people in my career, but
I’d prefer working to help kids learn and grow. (5)Text 6M: Lily,
why didn’t you call me back? (6)W: What do you mean? We talked o
n the phone three weeks ago. Did you forget?M: I’m not talking ab
out that time. I mean, I called last Saturday because I wanted to
check in about having lunch with Mom.W: Sorry, I’ve had this pro
blem a lot recently. My phone doesn’t show any calls coming in. (
6)M: You should take it to get fixed. Are you still coming this w
eekend to Dad’s birthday party? (7)W: Oh, yes, of course. I’ll be
there at 2:00 p.m. (7)M: Perfect. Can’t wait to have the family
together. See you then!Text 7 (第8题为推断题)W: Tim, I’ve got three cus
tomers outside who are waiting to pick up their orders and anothe
r who called about their delivery.M: I know, Nelly. I am working
as fast as I can on the first three, but the delivery order can’t
go out until Ralph gets back with the car. Do you know what’s ta
king him so long? (9)W: I think we have a problem then. I sent Ra
lph out to get some ingredients. He might take a long time to com
e back. (9) I knew this would happen after John quit. We need to
hire more people!M: Relax. I will just take it in my car. (9) Jus
t take these out to the customers.W: But that means I’ll have to
clean and close the store all on my own! It’s too much work.M: I’
ll be quick. Besides, once these orders go, we can lock the doors
and there won’t be any more customers to serve.Text 8M: Look at
all these trees the farmer has planted. There are thousands of th
em. (10)W: Yes, I spoke to him about it. He was a bit upset, actu
ally.M: Why is that?W: Because there is a system where, if you pl
ant 15,000 trees, the government pays for half of them. But he di
dn’t know about it and planted 5000 less than that. (10)M: Oh no.
Can’t he plant some more and claim for it?W: No, the claim has t
o be made in advance. He had to pay for all the trees himself.M:
I suppose if he is going to make a profit from wood or fruit, it’
s right that he should pay.W: But he isn’t. This is poor-quality
land, so he decided to put trees there to help the environment. (
11)M: That’s great. Trees are good for improving air quality.W: Y
es, the farmer is a good man. He really cares about the planet. (
11) (12)M: If only there were more people like that. (12)Text 9W:
What’s wrong with the car? (13)M: It won’t start. (13) Did we le
ave it on overnight?W: I don’t think so. While we were sleeping i
n the back, I only turned on the air conditioner to cool down the
car. (13)M: Uh, oh. That was the problem. When you turned off th
e engine, the battery stayed on. (13)W: Nathan, I’m so sorry. Now
, we can’t push the car and we’re miles away from the town.M: Luc
kily, we’re on a hill. If I get the car rolling, I can try to sta
rt the car to charge the battery. (14)W: If that doesn’t work, I’
ll find the phone numbers of a local garage and a tow-truck compa
ny that could help us.M: OK, ready? One, two, three — the car is
rolling. Ah! There we go! (14)W: I can’t believe that worked. (14
) Does that trick work for engine issues too?M: No. Actually, it’
s a simple trick, but it only works for this problem.W: I see. Wh
ere to next? Is it too early to get something to eat? (15)M: Not
at all. After we get breakfast, we can get back on the highway an
d we’ll be only 400 kilometers away from home. (15) (16)W: Great.
Even if we stop at the lake on the way home, we’ll be back befor
e 6:00 p.m. (16)M: I can’t wait. Let’s get this day started.Text
10M: Welcome to beautiful Australia. Although I moved here from E
ngland in 1980, I’ve become a citizen and now call it my permanen
t home. When I moved here, I was building homes. But after going
back to school, I was promoted to become an engineer. I did those
jobs for years before quitting and opening a charity foundation
to help poorer communities. (17) This country has helped me so mu
ch, and that’s the real reason why I’m excited to share my love a
nd knowledge of Australia. (18) First, Australia was discovered b
y Europeans around 1771 and became a part of the United Kingdom.
Australia wasn’t officially a country until 1901. (19) I’m not us
ually interested much in history, but I believe Australia’s histo
ry and modern times are so unique. Now about 30% of Australia is
foreign-born and the largest groups are from China, India, and Italy. Australia is a large country, but the total number of people is only about 25 million. The reason is that more than 90% of Australians live next to the ocean. Areas on the coast have a variety of climates, while the central areas of the island are said to be the driest, flattest, and oldest in the world. All of these unique things make the country so special, but my favorite fact is that more than 80% of our animals can only be found in Australia. (20) 参考答案:1~5 ACCAC6~10 BBAAB11~15 BCAAC16~20 ACBBC
