（二）简单句与复合句的转换 1. 简单句转换成复合句 （1）将名词短语转换为名词性从句 His speech at the meeting was encouraging. →What he spoke at the meeting was encouraging. 他在会上说的话令人鼓舞。 （2）将不定式短语转换为从句 They are discussing how to carry out this new plan. →They are discussing how they should carry out this new plan. 他们正在讨论如何执行这项新计划。
（3）将介词短语转换为状语从句 We left after the end of the speeches. →We left after the speeches ended. 演讲结束后，我们离开了。 But for the Party, we could never have today’s happiness. →If it were not for the Party, we could never have today’s happiness. 要是没有党，我们决不会有今天的幸福。 （4）将时间状语转换为主句 We parted ten years ago. →It is ten years since we parted. 我们十年前分手了。 He will return before long. →It won’t be long before he returns. 他很快就回来。
2. 复合句转换成简单句 （1）名词性从句转换为与名词相应的成分 Tell me where you live, please. →Tell me your address, please. 请告诉我你住哪里。 （2）定语从句转换成相应的定语 He died in the village where he was born. →He died in his native village. 他死在故乡。
（3）状语从句转换成相应的状语 When he left school, he went into business. →On leaving school, he went into business. 他毕业后便进入商界。 （4）用独立主格结构替换状语从句 As the rain stopped, they decided to set off at once. →The rain having stopped, they decided to set off at once. 雨停后，他们决定立刻出发。 当分词短语的逻辑主语和句子的主语不一致时，我们才能用独立主格结构。独立主格结构在句中作状语，多用于书面语中。
