The tidal wave of the times is sweeping in, and the doomsayers' rhetoric for journalism is in full swing. ——'So, does journalism still have a future?' ——'Yes! But it requires relentless exploration and bold trial-and-error.' Our answer is firm and sincere. We are Newstopia A team of insightful, thoughtful, critical, and imaginative journalists from the emerging generation. With diverse backgrounds from the Greater China area, we have gathered at the School of Journalism and Communication of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) with a common passion and pursuit of journalism. We are not dreamers in an ivory tower but down-to-earth practitioners of journalistic ideals. We don't intend to be the compass of the future of journalism; rather, we see ourselves as repairers of the storm-battered 'news ark' and navigators forging a path forward in the undercurrents. We don't indulge in nostalgic narratives; instead, we observe the status quo and firmly embrace the future. 'You say you see a future. So what kind of future is that?” 'It's a future with infinite possibilities. It's a future where, despite the collapse of globalization consensus, ecological sustainability, and many other social norms, it is still possible for humans to reach mutual understanding through our efforts.” Set sail！For the future of journalism Gathered here at CUHK, we will soon join the global journalism community. Starting with Newstopia, we embark on a voyage of discovery for the future of journalism with these beliefs: 'Industry' is not an industrial-era categorization label, but a collection of genius individuals with real voices. 'Journalism' is not merely the mechanical transmission of information, but the most crucial bridge to help people communicate with each other and understand the world. 'Journalist' is not a tool that can be replaced by AI, but a knight who can harness superior productivity with independent values. 'Humans' are not mammals that can be alienated by technological progress, but living creatures that will continue to exist meaningfully because of their thinking capacity, self-esteem, and love.
By providing independent and critical examinations, we shed light on the industry's major innovative cases and observe how the various roles in the news industry are making breakthroughs. Newstopia, just born, has opened accounts on all major social media outlets. In the upcoming voyage, we will report daily on the most important issues at the intersection of 'journalism' and the 'future,' covering topics including but not limited to business, technology innovation, and society. This column takes readers to the streets to learn about the media preferences of strangers and listen to ordinary people's thoughts and expectations of tomorrow’s journalism. This column provides weekly briefings on what's hot and what's new in the news industry over the past week. We especially focus on the development of innovation in the industry, including the application of cutting-edge technology, business model innovation, and new forms of news products. Our editorial office To ensure the quality of our content, we have built an editorial office with a clear division and a commitment to professionalism. Our team includes: ●Two Chief Editors who carefully select weekly content at topic selection meetings. ●A Fact-checker who examines every article to ensure the accuracy of information. ●A Designer who strives for the best visual presentation of every piece of content. ●A Growth Editor who tailors the management of different social media platforms. ●Our Publisher, Kecheng Fang, an assistant professor at the School of Journalism and Communication at CUHK, will guide the direction of Newstopia along the way. Standing at the forefront of today's journalism industry, we strive to explore the endless possibilities of tomorrow and ignite a fire for each other through Newstopia. So, to reiterate our answer: 'Yes, we firmly believe that there is a future for journalism.” Even if the tide is against us and our ark is somewhat broken, we will still carry the fire forward.
