①turn things around

to cause a situation or organization to change in a positive direction

They were losing badly but they turned things around in the second half of the game.

Still a loser or did you turn things around while you were gone?

②turn the table

Do you have a chance to turn the table?

另外,这个短语还可以和借此on连用:turn the table on sb

Turn the tables on him, before he has the chance to nail you.

the tide turns

Things begin to change (in favor of someone or something)”和“Things change, especially for the better

The tide has turned, no question about it!

④rags to riches

He has risen from rags to riches in a ten year span.

The beggar went from rags to riches overnight by winning the lottery.

It's like a true rags-to-riches story, but I've always found the middle class to be just so much more real.

Movie Star Couples Share Educational Backgrounds

The tabloids love a good celebrity romance. But so do scientists.

tabloid /ˈtæblɔɪd/ 通俗小报(文短图多,内容多为名人逸事,常被视为不太严肃)a newspaper that has small pages, a lot of photographs, and stories mainly about sex, famous people etc rather than serious news【例句】The story made the front page in all the tabloids.
One has even used movie stars as models for understanding why people tend to marry partners with similar levels of education. The star-studded study appears in the Journal of Human Capital. [Gustaf Bruze, "Marriage Choices of Movie Stars: Does Spouse's Education Matter?"]

If a group of people, a film or a show is star-studded, there are a lot of famous people in it.【词源】star, 明星, stud, 钉头,装饰钉。
There are any number of reasons why individuals might wed their academic equals.

The simplest being that they actually meet each other in school. It could also be that people with similar educational backgrounds wind up side by side in the workplace. Or maybe we're more comfortable with someone whose earning potential is in our ballpark.

结婚(尤用于报纸)(used especially in newspapers) to marry someone【不规则变化】 wedding,wedded/wed【例句】They will wed in the fall.

side by side:并排地,肩并肩地;在一起next to each other;close together【例句】We must stand side by side in our days of trouble.

ballpark:【熟词僻义】除了指有看台的“棒球场”,还有“(数额的)变动范围;可量范围”的意思【常见搭配】in the (right) ball park大致正确;差不多close to the amount, price etc that you want or are thinking about【例句】If you said five million you'd be in the ballpark. Give me a ballpark figure.
To sort through the possibilities, Gustaf Bruze, an economist in Denmark, looked to the Big Screen. Thespians, he found, also tend to marry people with the same level of learning. So Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes each have formal education equivalent to completion of high school.

Now, actors don't usually meet their partners in school, and they're not cast in movies based on their diplomas. Nor does their education level correlate with their box office earnings. So it can't be about happenstance or about finance. Maybe it's just that people with the same sort of education like the same moviesin this case, the ones they're in.

happenstance:/ˈhæp.ən.stɑːnts/ (尤指出现好结果的)偶然情况,机遇;巧合(之事)chance or a chance situation, especially one producing a good result【例句】We met each other by happenstance.
