以至于我们人类都无法好好领悟 it's impossible for us to truly grasp. 无论是寻找伴侣花四海寻找食物 Whether searching for a mate or food, 不管是回归旧巢 whether flying to old nests 还是找寻新家 or finding new homes... 春天来了 spring is here, 该是时候翱翔天空了 so it's time to take to the skies. 成群的雪雁循著各自的路线 Groups of snow geese take individual routes 飞翔在北美的上空 all over North America, 从墨西哥湾 from the Gulf of Mexico 到达北极区的繁殖温床 to breeding grounds in the Arctic. 有些是全家一起出行 Some travel in families, 父母带领著小鸟们 the parents leading their young. 它们训著大自然的路标前进 They're guided by natural landmarks 比如密西西比河 like the Mississippi River, 一条巨大的连续弯路指引者回家的方向 one giant winding road pointing the way home. 其它的鸟类走了更西边的路线 Other groups are taking a more western route. 对于好多小鸟来说这是第一次长途飞行 For some younger ones, it's their first time. 一次或者两次 Once or twice is enough to create 就足以画出能记住一生的脑海地图 a detailed mental map that lasts a lifetime. 它们的旅途跨过了几百个地标 Their journeys pass hundreds of landmarks. 它们可以短短几天 They can cross an entire continent 就跨越一整个大陆 in just a few days. Flamingos come into this world with white feathers. 它们吃进去的虾类 会让它们变成炽烈的粉色 The shrimp they eat transform them into a fiery pink. 它们吃得越多 The more they eat, 就变得越粉红 越健康 the healthier and pinker they become. 它们就连选择伴侣 They even choose a partner 也要看对方羽毛的粉色程度 based on the depth of their color, 所以在火烈鸟眼里 So in the eyes of a flamingo, 越粉红 越美艳 to be more pink is to be more beautiful. 再往肯尼亚南部走一走 Further south in Kenya, 鹳刚刚开始启程去往欧洲 storks set off on their journey to Europe. 它们不仅仅是飞翔 They don't just fly. 更是滑翔 They glide. 但想要滑翔 就需要一定的高度 But to glide, they need height. 就好像冲浪的选手 它们会接收暖气流 Like a surfer riding a wave, they catch thermals, 成团的热气 columns of hot air, 在伟大的航程中帮助它们 to help them on their epic voyage. 跟随著星星和太阳的指引 Guided by the stars and sun, 鹳每年也都在天上 storks follow the same paths 朝著同样的路径飞去 across the sky every year. 这叫做候鸟迁徙所经的路径 We call them flyways. 随著地球的潮涨潮落 As the rhythms of the planet ebb and flow 鹳下方的陆地上 beneath the storks, 另一种动物 也很本能的 other animals instinctively know 知道何时要开启自己的旅程 To travel is to feel the pull of a destination, 一个遥远的概念 引领著我们永远向前 a distant notion, drawing us forever onward. 无论是筑巢或者挖洞 Whatever nest or burrow, 该回家的时间 the time always comes 永远会到来 to travel home. 数世纪以来 鹳一直被大家看做是送子鸟 For centuries, a stork has been a sign of a new baby. 或许这是因为 Maybe that's because each year, 每一年他们都要飞回北方的家 they fly north to their nests, 回去产下自己的幼雏 where they have chicks of their own. 古罗马时期 如果鹳在你的屋顶上筑巢 In Roman times, it was considered lucky 是很幸运的 if a stork nested on your roof. 这个德国小村庄的居民们 The residents of this German village 还在搭建屋顶 still build rooftop platforms... 这对两边来说都是好事 have no squawk or chirp. 他们一生都很沉默 They live in silence. 而他们的表兄鹤 Their cousins, cranes, 可是一点都不安静 more than make up for the stork's silence. 年轻和鹤们从欧洲 Young cranes migrate across Europe 迁徙回到繁殖区 to such neat rows. 规律 齐整 Pattern and regularity, 是我们对秩序热爱的展现 a reflection of the order we seem to love. 即便是花都要排的整整齐齐的 Even our flowers are marshaled into straight lines. 鹤们寻找伴侣的需求 The crane's great search for companionship 很快将会得到满足 will soon be fulfilled, 但暂时还有很长的路途要前行 but for now, there's more sky to cover. 惊鸟向南横跨欧洲 The starlings are traveling south across Europe 找寻食物和新家 in search of food and a
