1.教材分析
本单元的中心话题是“澳大利亚”，通过本单元的学习，让学生了解该国的地理、历史、自然、风俗、文化等方面的知识，激发学生对旅游的兴趣。整个单元的热身、阅读等语言知识和语言技能项目都围绕该话题展开。
1.1WARMINGUP通过三个问题和一幅地图，唤起学生脑海里已有的澳大利亚的知识，和进一步了解澳大利亚的欲望。
1.2LISTENING由三个练习组成，录音分为两部分。第一个练习要求预测录音要谈到的内容。第二个练习是完成表格。第三个练习是通过听第二段录音，了解旅行安全、设备及环保方面的建议并完成表格。这三个练习主要培养学生预知、捕捉和筛选信息的能力。
1.3SPEAKING重点训练表达禁止和警告的日常交际用语，以小组的活动形式进行讨论，组织学生用前面所听内容完成要到某地旅行的原因以及如果出现了问题应该如何解决。
1.4PRE-READING提供了二个问题，要求学生预测“阅读”部分会回答哪些问题以及如何安排这些问题。培养学生的逻辑能力。这些问题的讨论为阅读作了铺垫，激起学生阅读下文的欲望，他们急于了解自己的回答是否与作者相吻合。
1.5READING介绍了澳大利亚的组成、国旗、土著居民、殖民者、国家的诞生以及澳大利亚英语与英国英语的区别。
1.6POST-READING练习1让学生脑海中的问题得到解决。练习2检查学生对阅读的理解程度。练习3训练学生分清事实、定义和例子，有助于学生准确地有逻辑地表达观点。
1.7LANGUAGESTUDY包含词汇和语法两部分。词汇学习涉及借助于英语词典。解释英语单词和本单元一些词在文章中的具体运用。语法练习部分复习了表语。
通过两个练习使学生学习到哪些词可以充当表语，还有除be外哪些动词还可以充当系动词。通过复习可以提高学生书写句子的准确性。
1.8INTEGRATINGSKILLS包含阅读和写作部分。通过阅读“澳大利亚”，人们了解了澳大利亚的一些其它情况，如，人口、面积、物产、动物和气候等。写作部分要求学生描述一种澳大利亚的动物。
2.教材重组
2.1WARMINGUP,LISTENING和Workbook中的LISTENING放在一起，设计成一节“听力课”。
2.2SPEAKING和Workbook中的TALKING均属于说的内容，因此把它们放在一起，整合成一节“口语课”。
2.3将PRE-READING,READING和POST-READING三项活动放在一起，整合成一节“阅读课”。
2.4把LANGUAGESTUDY和Workbook中的PRACTISING放在一起，整合成一节“语法课”。
2.5将INTEGRATINGSKILLS中的Reading设计为一节泛读课。
