美国国立卫生研究院临床中心在华盛顿特区举行了一次以矿物质及其用途为主题的展览。
该临床中心与史密森学会自然历史博物馆合作，介绍了矿物质在药品中的应用过程。

本次展览的主题为“药品中的矿物质”。主要向人们讲解地壳中的矿物质在人体健康、药品及治疗等领域的作用。
约翰·加林（JohnGallin）是美国国立卫生研究院临床中心的总指挥。他表示，矿物质不仅有益人体健康，在健康治疗方面也有重要作用。
“每类矿物质的作用不尽相同。有的矿物质与抗生素一样重要，比如银。有的矿物质在输送蛋白质方面非常重要，比如铜。有的矿物质对牙齿健康非常重要，比如氟化物。矿物质各有分工，这也是其神奇之处。”
他补充说，矿物质对于全球各地医疗中心的医疗设备来说必不可少。
“比如，漂亮的绿宝石在CT（计算机断层扫描）及乳房成像过程所用制作高清图片的成像设备中作用突出。”

放射科医师赖斯·弗利奥（LesFolio）在国立研究院工作。他指出，成像设备还需要其他矿物质。
