Abstract:Theinfluenceofthespacingofdiaphragmplatesonthedistortionofsimplysupported
boxgirderisstudied.Bycomparingdistortioneffectandrigidtorsioneffectofsimplysupported
boxgirdersinstallingwithdiaphragmplatesindifferentnumberundertheconcentratedloadcase,
theauthorsobtainacurveshowingthatmaximaldistortionchangeswithdiaphraqmdensity.Thus
asuggestioncanbeadvancedasfollows:whentheratioofdiaphragmspacingdtothemaximal
dimensionofcrosssectionbisgreaterthan1.92,theeffectofdistortionhastobeconsideredin
analyzingrestrainingtorsionofthememberwithclosedcrosssection.Thisisasuggestionof
guidingsignificancetothepracticalengineering,esp,high-risecoretubestructure.
