Music Performance Scholarships for Incoming Students (2010)

Auditions for Prospective Music Majors, Music Minors, and Other Talented Music Performers

The Music Department, which is a member of the National Asociation of Schols of Music, offers accredited

curricula leading to either a Bachelor of Science in Music Education, or a Bachelor of Arts in Music. Students in

the latter degree program may elect an emphasis in performance, church music leadership, music history, or

composition & arranging. Six ful-time faculty and nineteen part-time faculty provide studio and class instruction in

the music department to both majors and non-majors. Students wishing to major or minor in music and talented

non-majors desiring consideration for Music Performance Scholarships are required to complete an entrance

audition. For music majors and minors, successfuly passing the entrance audition wil ensure admitance to the

music program through the sophomore level, at which time a second audition wil determine eligibility for

uperclassman standing. Al auditioned students who are awarded Music Performance Scholarships can renew

these scholarships up to four years, as long as the student maintains the scholarship requirements.

Entrance auditions wil be held during the visit weekends sponsored by the Asbury Colege Admisions Office. In

the 209-2010 schol year, on-campus auditions wil be held on the folowing dates:

? Friday, November 13, 209: Fall Visit Day [Open House at 2 pm]

? Friday, November 20, 209: Al-Star Band Clinic Weekend

? Friday, January 29, 2010: Winter Visit Day [Open House at 2 pm]

? Friday, February 12, 2010: Scholarship Weekend I

? Friday, February 26, 2010: Scholarship eekend II

? Friday, April 23, 2010: Spring Visit Day [Open House at 2 pm]

If you would like to schedule an on-campus audition during one of these weekends, please notify the Admisions

Office at least three weeks prior to the audition. This deadline is essential for the scheduling of appropriate music

faculty members and accompanists, if applicable to your performing area. (Vocal students must have

accompaniments sent at least two weeks prior to the audition.) If you are unable to schedule an audition on

campus, you may send a video recording (VHS, VHS-C, or DVD) to the folowing address: Asbury Colege Music

Department, One Macklem Drive, Wilmore KY 40390. Note, however, that piano and vocal students also must

complete a sight-singing audition as part of the videotaping process. (Further information folows in the Piano &

Vocal sections below.) Auditions (live or recorded) completed by March 1

st

have greatest advantage in

consideration for music scholarships for the folowing year, but all auditions evaluated before the start of classes

wil receive consideration if funds are available. The Music Performance Scholarship Aplication must also be

completed and received before a music scholarship can be awarded. Acceptance by the Music Department is not

related, however, to acceptance by the colege as a whole—that is determined entirely through the Admisions

Office.

An on-campus audition consists of the folowing:

1. Selected scales (instrumentalists and keyboardists only)

2. A brief sight-reading (instrumentalists/keyboardists) or sight-singing excerpt (vocalists)
