Great changes have taken place in towns that we have lived in for centuries, while completely new cities are being built. One such place is the city of Songdo.Every home there will have a “telepresence” system (远程遥控系统)—allowing users to control the heating and locks, take part in video meetings, and receive education, healthcare and government services.Around the city, escalators (自动扶梯) will only move when someone is on them, and offices and schools will all be connected to the system.

The great mind behind Songdo is from the company Cisco. In fact, technology companies around the world such as IBM,Siemens and Microsoft are already in the business.

About 75% of the world''s population will live in cities by 2050,so cities will need to be more modern to deal with the coming problems.“Making cities smarter is one way out,and I think this will in turn make cities greener,” said Dan Hill, head of a research company.

In our daily life, we always come to the question “What is the real beauty?” Different people have different ideas.

Last night, I read a true story from the newspaper. It''s about a poor, ordinary-looking old woman. She lived alone, making a living by picking things from rubbish bins. However, she took in more than ten homeless children and tried to bring them up .Every day she worked from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. In order to make as much money as possible to raise the children and to keep them in school, she even went to a local hospital to sell her blood once a month. She got so weak because of the loss of blood that she sometimes felt sick on her way home. When she was asked why she chose to look after so many children, she smiled and answered,“Oh, I love children and I like to live together with them because they always bring me great happiness.” Though the old woman was poor, she was full of love and rich in spirit. So the local government and people in her city truly respected her.

Maybe you can''t help thinking,“What makes that poor woman so different?” It is nothing else but her inner (内部的) beauty, her true devotion of love without any thought of money. So the real beauty is the beauty in one''s heart, that is, the inner beauty!

七、阅读表达(共5小题, 计10分)

阅读下面短文, 根据要求完成下面各小题。

Why do you feel encouraged when your teacher gives you a smile? How do you know your mother is angry when she frowns(皱眉)? In both cases, 83 the person is telling us something not with words, but with facial expressions.

Facial expressions are one or more movements on a person’s face, such as frowning, raising one s eyebrows, and nose and lip movements. They express people’s feelings.

Scientists at Oxford University have shown that humans have 80 muscles on their faces. These muscles can create more than 7,000 facial expressions. However, there are five main kinds of facial expressions that are common in all cultures: happiness, sadness, surprise, fear and anger. Facial expressions are very important to communication. One study at UCLA, in the US, showed that in most conversations, over 93 percent of the communicating is done without speaking.

If people can read facial expressions, they may be better at knowing what other people are feeling, so they can understand them better. Someone who does not enjoy a certain type of food usually will make a face when they see or taste it. A frown means worry or anger. Raised eyebrows and open eyes show surprise.

However, there are some taboos(禁忌) for reading people’s facial expressions. For example, 84 it is not a good idea to stare at someone for a long time while you are reading his or her facial expressions. They may think you are rude.
