ism(旅游业) is one of the world’s largest industries. Many countries
depend heavily on tourism as an important part of their economy(
经济), while other countries--such as some of the smaller Caribbean
island nations--are almost completely dependent on tourism. Desp
ite its economic advantages, tourism has disadvantages, too. Whil
e countries spend millions attracting tourists, they are also und
er the pressure(压力) that tourism brings. One of the biggest probl
ems is environmental. The building of roads and hotels can quickl
y destroy those very beautiful places. Development on wetlands, f
or example, influences wildlife; forests disappear as they are cl
eared to make way for buildings and to provide fuel(燃料). In addit
ion, the tourist industry also puts a huge pressure on water peop
le need. In dry Mediterranean areas, tourists use almost twice as
much water as local people when swimming in the pool. Tourism is
also responsible for producing plenty of waste. Cruise ships in
the Caribbean produce a lot of rubbish—more than 70, 000 tons eac
h year. It even has an influence on places far away like the Hima
layas, the world’s highest mountain, which has more than 100 tons
of rubbish sitting on it. In spite of these problems, tourism ca
n be good for communities and the environment. The park-entrance
fees(费用) are paid for the protection of places of interest or the
animals. What’s more, tourism brings people closer to nature, an
d can give them a better understanding of the environment and the
result of destroying it. This leads to pressure on local governm
ents to protect these beautiful areas, and can result in the prot
ection of endangered plants and animals. Also, it can provide peo
ple with more opportunities to find jobs in the tourist industry.
Although tourism has many advantages, it clearly has a bad influ
ence as well. The challenge for local and national governments is
to manage tourism so that communities can benefit economically,
and yet at the same time, make sure that the tourist areas are ke
pt for all to enjoy. 47. Paragraph 3 and Paragraph 4 mainly talk
about the ________ of tourism. A. surveyB. development C. importa
nceD. disadvantages 48. The writer shows the waste problem is ser
ious by ___________. A. listing factsB. telling stories C. asking
questions D. comparing49. According to Paragraph 5, which of the
following are the advantages of tourism? ①The money from tourism
is used to protect the environment. ②Tourism can help people bet
ter understand the local culture. ③People can get more chances to
find jobs related to tourism. ④Humans and nature are becoming cl
oser with the help of tourism. A. ①②③B. ①③④C. ①②④D. ②④50. The wri
ter advises the government to ________ at the end of the passage.
A. attract more touristsB. care about the economy C. manage tour
ism wellD. develop the tourist industryDI have a special place in
my heart for libraries. I have for as long as I can remember. I
was always an enthusiastic reader, sometimes reading up to three
books a day as a child. Stories were like air to me and while oth
er kids played ball or went to parties, I lived out adventures th
rough the books I checked out from the library. My first job was
working at the Ukiah Library when I was 16 years old. It was a dr
eam job and I did everything from shelving books to reading to th
e children for story time. As I grew older and became a mother, t
he library took on a new place and an added meaning in my life. I
had several children and books were our main source (来源) of ente
rtainment. It was a big deal for us to load up and go to the loca
l library, where my kids could pick out books to read or books th
ey wanted me to read to them. I always read, using different voic
es, as though I were acting out the stories with my voice and the
y loved it! It was a special time to bond with my children and it
filled them with the wonderment of books. Now, I see my children
taking their children to the library and I love that the excitem
ent of going to the library lives on from generation to generatio
n. As a novelist, I’ve found a new relationship with libraries. I
encourage readers to go to their local library when they can’t a
fford to purchase a book. I see libraries as a safe haven (避风港) f
or readers and writers, a bridge that helps put together a reader
with a book. Libraries, in their own way, help fight book piracy
(盗版行为) and I think all writers should support libraries in a sig
nificant way when they can. Encourage readers to use the library.
Share library announcements on your social media. Frequent them
and talk about them when you can. 51. What does the underlined ph
rase “an added meaning” in paragraph 3 mean? A. Pleasure from wor
king in the library. B. Closer relationship developed with the re
aders. C. Wonderment from acting out the stories. D. Joy of readi
ng passed on in the family. 52. What does the author call on othe
r writers to do?A. Hold book fairs. B. Support libraries. C. Writ
e for social media. D. Buy her novels. 53. Which can be the best
title for the text?A. My Love of the LibraryB. My Idea about Writ

your parents told you that you must eat your green vegetables? W
e all know that green vegetables are healthy, but what about othe
r foods of different colors? You don’t need to like all food, but
it is good to have different colors in your diet(饮食), for exampl
e, red food such as strawberries and tomatoes, yellow food such a
s bananas and pears and orange food such as carrots and oranges.
But what about blue food?A few years ago, a food company added th
e color blue to its bags of sweets. Children like the color blue,
so were the blue sweets popular? The food company was surprised
to find that they were very unpopular. Children still preferred t
he sweets that were the usual colors of red, green, brown, yellow
and orange. How many blue meats or vegetables do you know? None?
There are few natural blue foods —it isn’t a common natural food
color. Some scientists say that as a result, our brain doesn’t r
ecognize blue food as something healthy or safe to eat. This is p
erhaps why we don’t usually use blue food coloring for drinks, ca
kes and other food. Some people say we eat with our eyes. The ide
a is that we need to like the looks of the food before we try it.
I wanted to test this idea and so I asked some friends to have a
very unusual lunch. My husband and I made some eggs on toast and
put blue coloring in them. The result is nobody ate them. My gue
sts refused to put the blue eggs in their mouths! So will we ever
see blue food on our plates? The answer seems to be “no”, at leas

ls. They believe summer schools can help children go over the kno
wledge that they have learned during the school year. In summer s
chools, students may study in a more relaxing way and can come up
with interesting topics for discussion with their teachers. Usua
lly, the number of students in summer schools is small, so this g
ives them a good chance to connect with other students and teache
rs better. If a student has failed a lesson, summer schools may h
elp him or her. Moreover, they are building their imagination and
learning social skills. A summer school can be a good chance for
students who need it, but it can be difficult for students who n
eed a rest. So parents should decide if a summer school is necess
