Unluckily, the car fell down from a hill into a deep river. Christopher, then 12, swam through a broken window and got out for the fresh air. Then he realized his brother and sister were still in the car.

Christopher took a deep breath and swam back into the car. He saved Mac first, then he swam back to look for Rosie, who was under the cold, dark water, in the car. Christopher had to feel for her seatbelt because he couldn’t see anything in the water. He took the seatbelt off her, and went up for air. Finally he went back to pull her out of the car.

Christopher’s mother and father were thrown out before the car rolled down the hill. When his mother came back to her life, she looked for her children hurriedly. It is clear that sleep is necessary to everyone. If we don’t sleep enough, we feel tired.

Each night we have two kinds of sleep: active sleep and passive sleep. The passive sleep gives our body the rest that it needs, and prepares us for active sleep, in which dreaming appears. In passive sleep, the body is at rest. The heart slows down. We move very little. And the brain becomes very inactive. If a person continues to sleep, the brain temperature rises, the amount of blood in the brain increases, the body becomes very, very still, and the brain goes from being inactive to being active. And as the brain becomes more active, the eyes begin to move rapidly. When the eyes begin to move, this is a sign of another change---the change is that a person is dreaming.

Throughout the night, a person usually dreams for about one and a half hours. Many people say that they don’t dream, or that they rarely dream. Doctors have studied the sleep and have found that everyone dreams--- in fact, every person needs to dream in order to keep healthy. It appears we need passive sleep in order to rest our bodies. We need active sleep in order to rest our brains.

49. If we don’t sleep enough, we feel ______.

A. happy. B. relaxed C. tired D. excited

50. What does the speaker want to tell us?

How we dream.

When we must sleep.

What two kinds of sleep are.

Why we dream.

51. What have doctors found?

Everyone dreams.

Some persons don’t dream.

Few persons need active sleep.

Many people don’t dream.

52. Where can we hear the speech?

In a car factory.

In a big zoo.

In a bus station.

In a science class.
