第二部分 阅读
理解(共两节,38分)
第一节(共14小题;每小题2分,共28分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出最佳选
项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑.
A
We live in a town with three beaches. There are
two parts less than 10 minutes’ walk from home where neighborhoo
d children gather to play. However, what my children want to do a
fter school is pick up a screen - any screen - and stare at it fo
r hours. They are not alone. Today’s children spend an average of
four and a half hours a day looking at screens, split between wa
tching television and using the Internet.
In the past few years,
an increasing number of people and organisations have begun comin
g up with plans to counter this trend. A couple of years ago film
-maker David Bond realised that his children, then aged five and
three, were attached to screens to the point where he was able to
say “chocolate” into his three-year-old son’s ear without gettin
g a response. He realised that something needed to change, and, b
eing a London media type, appointed himself “marketing director f
rom Nature”. He documented his journey as he set about treating n
ature as a brand to be marketed to young people. The result was P
roject Wild Thing, a film which charts the birth of the World Net
work, a group of organisations with the common goal of getting ch
ildren out into nature.
“Just five more minutes outdoors can make
a difference,” David Bond says. “There is a lot of really intere
sting evidence which seems to be suggesting that if children are
inspired up to the age of seven, then being outdoors will be on h
abit for life.” His own children have got into the habit of playi
ng outside now: “We just send them out into the garden and tell t
hem not to come back in for a while.”
Summer is upon us. There is
an amazing world out there and it needs our children as much as
they need it. Let us get them out and let them play.
21. How did
David Bond advocate his idea?
A. By making a documentary film. B
. By organizing outdoor activities.
C. By advertising in London m
edia. D. By creating a network of friends.
22. Which of the follo
wing can replace the underlined word “charts” in paragraph 2?
A.
delays B. predicts C. records D. Confirms
23. What can be a suita
ble title for the text?
A. Let Children Have Fun
B. Young Childre
n Need More Free Time
C. Market Nature to Children

Queen El
izabeth II, who ascended the British throne at 25, has passed awa
y at the age of 96.
On Sept. 8, the official Twitter account bel
onging to the royal family confirmed the news, writing, “The Quee
n died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon.”
The news comes ho
urs after Buckingham Palace issued a statement on Sept. 8, sharin
g that doctors were “concerned” with the Queen’s health and recom
mended she “remain under medical supervision.”
While Her Majesty
stayed busy with a variety of royal engagements even in the final
years of her life, some royal watchers grew concerned about her
heath after the Queen started using a cane and was briefly hospit
alized in October 2021 for an undisclosed ailment.
In February,
the fears grew stronger after she tested positive for COVID-19, j
ust weeks after she celebrated 70 years on the British throne to
become the longest-reigning monarch in British history. However,
the Queen would make a rare appearance a little over three months
later in May at the Royal Windsor Horse Show.
But after the fir
st day of her Platinum Jubilee celebrations in June, the Palace s
hared at the time that she experienced “some discomfort,” leading
her to miss the National Service of Thanksgiving at St. Paul’s C
athedral on June 3.
Back in 1952, Elizabeth became queen upon th
e death of her father, King George VI. In 2015, she surpassed the
previous longest-reigning British monarch, her great-great-grand
mother Queen Victoria, and also became the longest-serving female
head of state in world history.
Her extraordinary reign include
d countless overseas visits with world leaders but the Queen alw
ays viewed public and voluntary service as one of the most import
ant elements of her work.
According to the Palace, Elizabeth had
links - as President or Royal Patron - with over 600 charities,
military associations, professional bodies and public service org
anizations.
“I declare before you all that my whole life whether
it be long or short shall be devoted to your service,” Elizabeth
shared on her 21st birthday, back when she was still known as Pr
incess Elizabeth.
Elizabeth was married to the late Prince Phili
p for 73 years before he passed away in April 2021 at the age of
99.
At the Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral, a card was seen atop of
the late royal’s coffin. The note, written on the Queen’s station
ery and placed alongside flowers, appeared to read in part, “I lo
ve you”.
The Queen carried out all of her duties while raising fo
ur children: Prince Charles, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew and Pri
nce Edward. During her incredible life, she would also welcome ei
ght grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren to the Royal Family
.
At the time of Philip’s passing, Prince Harry reflected on his
grandparents’ incredible love story.
“The two of them together
were just the most adorable couple,” he shared. “I don’t know if
anyone’s ever described them as adorable but, to me, knowing the
cheekiness of him and knowing that behind what the world sees you
have two individuals who were very much in love, and both at a v
ery young age, dedicated both of their lives to service. The plac
es these two travelled, the things they saw, the experiences they
went through. That is an incredible bond between two people.”

After years of observing human nature, I have decide
d that two qualities make the difference between men of great ach
ievement and men of average performance curiosity and discontent.
I have never known an outstanding man who lacked either. And I h
ave never known an average man who had both. The two belong toget
her.
Together, these deep human urges (驱策力) count for much more t
hat ambition. Galileo was not merely ambitious when he dropped ob
jects of varying weights from the Leaning Tower at Pisa and timed
their fall to the ground. Like Galileo, all the great names in h
istory were curious and asked in discontent, “Why? Why? Why?”
For
tunately, curiosity and discontent don’t have to be learned. We a
re born with them and need only recapture them.
“The great man,”
said Mencius (孟子), “is he who does not lose his child’s heart.” Y
et most of us do lose it. We stop asking questions. We stop chall
enging custom. We just follow the crowd. And the crowd desires re
stful average. It encourages us to occupy our own little corner,
to avoid foolish leaps into the dark, to be satisfied.
Most of us
meet new people, and new ideas, with hesitation. But once having
met and liked them, we think how terrible it would have been, ha
d we missed the chance. We will probably have to force ourselves
to waken our curiosity and discontent and keep them awake.
How sh
ould you start? Modestly, so as not to become discouraged. I thin
k of one friend who couldn’t arrange flowers to satisfy herself.
She was curious about how the experts did it. How she is one of t
he experts, writing books on flower arrangement.
One way to begin
is to answer your own excuses. You haven’t any special ability?
Most people don’t; there are only a few geniuses. You haven’t any
time? That’s good, because it’s always the people with no time w
ho get things done. Harriet Stowe, mother of six, wrote parts of
Uncle Tom’s Cabin while cooking. You’re too old? Remember that Th
omas Costain was 57 when he published his first novel, and that G
randma Moses showed her first pictures when she was 78.
However y
ou start, remember there is no better time to start than right no
w, for you’ll never be more alive than you are at this moment.

rial and error leads to the finding of truth. B. Scientists tend
to be curious and ambitious.

Lead a life of adventure. D. Follow the fashion.
30. What can we

Who cares if people think wrongly that
the internet has had more important influences than the washing
machine? Why does it matter that people are more impressed by the
most recent changes?
It would not matter if these misjudgments w
ere just a matter of people’s opinions. However, they have real i
mpacts, as they result in misguided use of scarce resources.
The
fascination with the ICT(Information and Communication Technology
) revolution, represented by the internet, has made some rich cou
ntries wrongly conclude that making things is so “yesterday” that
they should try to live on ideas. This belief in “post-industria
l society” has led those countries to neglect their manufacturing
sector(制造业), with negative consequences for their economies.
Eve
n more worryingly, the fascination with the internet by people in
rich countries has moved the international community to worry ab
out the “digital divide” between the rich countries and the poor
countries. This has led companies and individuals to donate money
to developing countries to buy computer equipment and internet f
acilities. The question, however, is whether this is what the dev
eloping countries need the most. Perhaps giving money for those l
ess fashionable things such as digging wells, extending electrici
ty networks and making more affordable washing machines would hav
e improved people’s lives more than giving every child a laptop c
omputer or setting up internet centres in rural villages, I am no
t saying that those things are necessarily more important, but ma
ny donators have rushed into fancy programmes without carefully a
ssessing the relative long-term costs and benefits of alternative
uses of their money.
In yet another example, a fascination with
the new has led people to believe that the recent changes in the
technologies of communications and transportation are so revoluti
onary that now we live in a “borderless world”. As a result, in t
he last twenty years or so, many people have come to believe that
whatever change is happening today is the result of great techno
logical progress, going against which will be like trying to turn
the clock back. Believing in such a world, many governments have
put an end to some of the very necessary regulations on cross-bo
rder flows of capital, labour and goods, with poor results.
Under
standing technological trends is very important for correctly des
igning economic policies, both at the national and the internatio
nal levels, and for making the right career choices at the indivi
dual level. However, our fascination with the latest, and our und
er valuation of what has already become common, can, and has, led
us in all sorts of wrong directions.
31. Misjudgments on the inf
luences of new technology can lead to ________.
A. a lack of conf
idence in technology
B. a slow progress in technology
C. a confli
ct of public opinions
D. a waste of limited resources
32. The exa
mple in Paragraph 4 suggests that donators should ________.
A. ta
ke people’s essential needs into account
B. make their programmes
attractive to people
C. ensure that each child gets financial su
pport
D. provide more affordable internet facilities
33. What has
led many governments to remove necessary regulations?
A. Neglect
ing the impacts of technological advances.
B. Believing that the
world has become borderless.
C. Ignoring the power of economic de
velopment.
D. Over-emphasizing the role of international communic
ation.
34. What can we learn from the passage?
A. People should b
e encouraged to make more donations.
B. Traditional technology st
ill has a place nowadays.
C. Making right career choices is cruci
al to personal success.
D. Economic policies should follow techno
logical trends.

Robot Teachers
If you think of the jobs robots could never do,
you would probably put doctors and teachers at the top the list.
___35___
But are we underestimating what robots can do? In some c

connect with humans like another human can. ___38___A robot teach
er is better than no teacher at all. In some parts of the world,
there aren’t enough teachers and 9-16 percent of children under
the age of 14 don’t go to school. That problem could be partly so
lved by robots because they can teach anywhere and won’t get stre
ssed, or tried, or move somewhere for an easier job.
Those negat

B. Could
there be a place for robots in education after all?
C. It is argu

第三部分 书面表达(共两节,32分)
第一节(共4小题;第40、41
题各2分,第42题3分,第43题5分,共12分)
阅读下面短文,按照题目要求用英语回答问题。
A team of scientis
ts has come up with a plan they say could help rebuild the Arctic
ice cap. The ice cap is a huge area of sea ice that covers most
of the Arctic Ocean all year round.
Usually, the sea ice gets thi
cker and spreads further each winter, but this hasn’t happened fo
r the past few years. Last month, the ice cap had shrunk to its s
mallest size since scientists began keeping records of it 38 year
s ago. The weather in the Arctic has been unusually warm this win
ter. Some days, temperatures have been 20℃ higher than is normal
for this time of year. In March, the temperature was above 0℃at l
east one day.
The Arctic ice cap is needed to be rebuilt because
sea ice reflects heat and light from the sun back into space. Wit
h less ice, the ocean would absorb more heat. The Arctic would wa
rm up even more quickly, and more ice would melt. Without sea ice
, many animals would lose their natural habitats and could become
endangered. It could also affect the weather, with more storms a
nd erosion along the coast.
Dr. Steven Desch and a group of scien
tists from Arizona State University in the United States think th
ey can help to build up Arctic sea ice again. They want to set up
wind-powered pumps on the existing sea ice. During the winter, t
he pumps would spread water from the ocean over the surface of th
e ice where it would freeze and form a new layer of ice. The scie
ntists say that in 10 years, this could add an extra metre of ice
to the ice cap.
The plan would require about 10 million pumps an
d it would be very expensive -- about $655 billion. Some other sc
ientists are wondering if the pumps would actually work in severe
Arctic conditions. They are also concerned about how the project
might affect the environment.
Dr. Desch said his team hoped thei
r proposal would get more people interested in looking for a solu
tion to the problem of melting sea ice. He said the only plan peo
ple have right now is to try to reduce greenhouse gas emissions f
rom cars and other man-made sources. He and his team don’t think
that will be enough to save the sea ice, so they’re going to work
on their plan and hope that it will give everyone a good start o
n saving the Arctic ice cap.
40. What is the Arctic ice cap?
41.
What are the shortcomings of Dr. Steven Desch’s solution?
42. Ple
ase decide which part is false in the following statement, then u
nderline it and explain why.
Some scientists were worried about t
he project and Dr. Desch hoped more people could help improve it.

43. Please briefly present your own solution(s) to the greenhous
e gas emission problem in your daily life. (about 40 words)
【答案】4

their proposal would get more people interested in looking for a
solution to the problem of melting sea ice.或: Dr. Desch hoped it would give everyone a good start on saving the Arctic ice cap.
43. I think green living is the best solution to the problem. First we can choose to use the public transport when going to school or work, which might result in fewer cars on the road. Second, we should remember to turn off the electric devices in our home.
