  From the University of Idaho, this is Guide #3 in the series Distance Education at a Glance. It was developed by Dr. Barry Willis. Instructional development provides a process and framework for systematically planning, developing, and adapting instruction based on identifiable learner needs and content requirements. • Instructional Design for Distance Education
  From the Cooperative State Research, Education, and Extension Service (CSREES). The Distance Education Program, part of the Communications, Technology and Distance Education Unit, provides leadership across USDA and the land-grant system in the systematic design, development, implementation, and evaluation of CSREES‘s distance learning efforts and those of its partners. • Design Principles for the Support of Distributed Processes
  This paper by Jim Hewitt and Marlene Scardamalia of the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, was presented at the annual meeting of the American Educational Research Association, New Orleans. (1996).

• Distance Education Bibliography - Instructional Design
  This extensive bibliography is organized by delivery method. References include articles on audiographics, computer assisted instructions, interactive television, etc. Compiled by Ms. Edrie Greer, Instructional Development Specialist for distance learning applications, East Carolina University, with assistance from mauri collins, then at Pennsylvania State University.   The directory includes listings by student‘s name, graduation year, dissertation title, institution, and chairperson. This list is cross indexed so that the information can be retrieved in a variety of ways. Compiled by Edward P. Caffarella, Ph.D., Professor of Educational Technology, University of Northern Colorado. (1997).

• Issues in Distance Learning
  The paper by Lorraine Sherry includes some definitions, history, theories, and systems of distance education. It discusses methods and strategies for designing and delivering instruction at a distance. The paper was originally published as: Issues in Distance Learning.
