Soft skills will get you the job
When employers refer to a 'skills shortage in accounting', often they are referring to a shortage of qualified accountants with complimentary soft skills. Soft skills are non-technical skills which can be defined in terms of expected outcomes and not as specific methods or techniques.
In advertised job roles you will find soft skills are described as communications, analytical and research skills, adaptability, leadership and management, and interpersonal skills. Technical skills are essential but it is the soft skills that employers often use to differentiate between candidates. It has often been said that 'technical skills will get you an interview but soft skills will get you the job.' CPA Australia has developed the Career Guidance System to help you assess all skills crucial to your career. The Career Guidance System will not only help you assess your level of competency in a certain skill but also direct you quickly to the information you require to improve that skill. Use the tool to help you understand selection criteria, to plan your career or to obtain a role-specific skill, such as project management. http://www./cps/rde/xchg/cpa-site/hs.xsl/8831.html?Division=Corporate&Segment=Passport |
