Today, understanding and managing the impact of cultural differences on the performance of the assigned expatriate, the overseas office, the multicultural team and the international business traveler are vital concerns to most international corporations and organizations.

To tailor the program to the unique needs of our clients we use a three-stage approach:

The following modules are presented individually or combined, depending on the timeframes and competency needs of the participants. All modules are interactive and can be covered in workshops or in individual coaching sessions. They provide the foundation that will benefit professionals in all realms of international business, preparing them to work effectively together through increased awareness of cultural differences and their impact on daily business interactions.

After attending a global skills seminar, participants will have a deeper understanding of the values, behaviors, and communication styles of other cultures and their own, and their impact on their work. They will be equipped to choose the right strategies for dealing with cultural issues effectively. And finally, they will have an enhanced ability to interact with people from other cultures, socially and professionally, and build trusting relationships.

  • Cultural Awareness
Recognizing the specific values that lay behind our own culture, and understanding how our culture shapes our thinking, behaving, and communicating styles is a critical first step to venturing successfully into the world. After this stage of cultural self-discovery, the module will help participants gain awareness of how these characteristics might be perceived by their cultural counterparts. They will learn skills and techniques to bridge the cultural gap, prevent clashes and misunderstandings, and interact effectively.

  • Cross-Cultural Communication Competence
This module provides participants with a greater understanding of their own verbal and non-verbal styles of communication, and teaches them ways to fine-tune their delivery to be more effective communicators within a multicultural environment. It ultimately provides increased awareness of communication challenges and enables employees to successfully interact
with colleagues and contacts in order to achieve their business objectives.

  • Culture-Specific Values, Behavior, Etiquette and Communication Patterns
  i.e., Working with Latinos, Negotiating with the French, Doing Business with Americans
International business requires much more than knowing a country's language. It is important
to be skilled in the cultural nuances of a society to make the best impression and avoid embarrassing, sometimes even deal-breaking blunders. This module will enlighten participants on the Dos and Don’ts, Whys, Whats, and Hows of their foreign counterparts’ culture.

  • Relocation - Successful Transition and Adaptation
Billions of dollars are lost annually because of failed expatriate assignments, and the most common reason for failure is culture shock of the employee and family. The cost of a single failed expatriate assignment is estimated at nearly $1.3 million, and 20% of expatriates return early from their assignments. This module will help participants build skills to cope with culture shock and daily life in a new surrounding, and learn to turn experience to their advantage. A mix of language and cultural study that will have future transferees feeling confident in their new environment before they even get there, and will facilitate a smoother and faster adjustment.

  • Re-entry - Successful Re-Adaptation to Home
Research shows that 40% of all repatriates leave their company within two years of returning home. "Reverse culture shock" of families and individuals repatriating can be more severe than their experience abroad. This module will foster a smooth transition at work and at home, and help participants make the best of their new identity and wealth of personal and cultural experience.
