A recent survey shows that global respondents generally believe that regional and individual issues are more severe than global risks like climate change. Global respondents worry about the increasing in living costs the most, and Chinese respondents are most concerned with earthquake risks.

RSA Group, a British insurance company with a 300-year history, held a global media conference in Shanghai on Oct. 18 and released the global risk survey report titled "Risks in 300 years: Past, Present and Future" to show the five risks that people worry about most at present.

It is worth mentioning that Chinese residents pay more attention to earthquakes as well as unsafe food ingredients and water supply. The majority of Chinese respondents said that they would choose to seek help from the government when they are facing risks.

Richard Schofield, strategy and marketing director of Sun Alliance Insurance (China), Ltd., speculated that the main reason Chinese residents listed earthquake risks as their first concern was that the survey samplings were taken shortly after the Yushu Earthquake.

The survey was initiated by the RSA and carried out by the Future Company, which interviewed nearly 7,000 people from seven countries on four continents. Sun Alliance Insurance (China), Ltd. CEO Greg Otterson told International Finance News reporters that it is critical for insurance companies to establish a "risk index" to understand the risks that people worry about most as well as the survival strategies that people would take in the face of risks.
