The exhumation of a recently discovered mass grave in Durdevac, just west of the capital Sarajevo, began on Monday by the Institute for Missing Persons of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), reported the Bosnian news agency Fena.
The shallow grave with evidence of several skeletons was discovered earlier this month. The Association of Families of the Missing from Hadzic requested the exhumation, and has sought a wider excavation in the area that it believes contains the remains of dozens more civilians from the Bosnian civil war of the 1990s. According to spokesperson Ferid Nisic, it is assumed that many of the victims fleeing the conflict stumbled onto military positions in the mountainous terrain. Source: Xinhua
