                             expect、anticipate、look forward to

这组词都有“期望”、“盼望”的意思。

 

 expect  指有信心、有把握地等待某事的发生，对期待的事情通常有一定的根据。 名词是expectation。

   

 1) We will expect you to the dinner unless we get the word to the contrary.

 （我们将期待你来吃饭了，除非得到话说你不来了。）

 2) Civilized nations must prohibit the use of nuclear weapons if we expect our society to live.

 （如果我们期望我们的社会能生存下去，文明的国家就必须禁止使用核武器。）

 3) The sales have a significant increase this month, which exceeds our expectation. 

 （这个月销售量有明显增加，这超出我们的期待。）

 4) We hope that you will never fall short of your parents’ expectation.

 （我们希望你不要辜负你父母的期望。）

　

 anticipate  是正式用词，指以高兴、焦虑、或恐惧的心情期待某事的发生。有时可以与expect换用，但需注意动词作宾语时，expect接动词不定 式，anticipate接动名词。 名词是anticipation。

 

 5) She was anticipating/expecting the approach of Christmas and the presents she would at last be able to open.

    （她期待着圣诞节的到来，渴望着她最终能打开的礼物。）

          6) We’ll anticipate hearing from you about how everything is getting along with you.

  We’ll expect to hear from you about how everything is getting along with you.

  （我们将期待听到关于你情况的消息。）

 7) We are awaiting 2010 World Exposition in Shanghai with pride and anticipation.

（我们怀着自豪和期待心情等待上海2010年世界博览会的开幕。）

　

 look forward to  口语用语，表示以迫切的心情等待或盼望某事的到来或发生。

 

 8) We are looking forward to a bumper harvest this year.

 （我们期待着今年的大丰收。）

9) I am looking forward to your early reply and having an interview with you.

 （我期待着您的及时回复以及与你面试。）
