单个元音字母在重读音节中的特殊读音

有些读音现象不能代表现代英语拼读的发展方向，这些不具有代表性的读音现象不能作为规则来掌握。拼读规则教学中应尽量回避列举含有这些发音现象的例词，避免给初学者带来不良的暗示。以下单词中个别字母的读音现象不符合规则。

put 字母 u 读 [u] 音	do / to 中的 字母 o 读 [u:] 音
woman 字母 o 读 [u] 音	one 多出来一个 [w] 音
wolf 字母 o 读 [u] 音	give / live 里面的 i 发短音 []

某些词重读音节中的单个元音字母会依照不同的拼读规则发音。例如：
tomato → to-ma-to [tm:tu] → to-ma-to[tmetu] → to-mat-o[tmætu]
banana → ba-na-na[bn:n] → ba-na-na [ bnen] → ba-nan-a [ bnæn]

听到过教学录音中有人把above后面一个音按绝对开音节来发音。字母O是按照107、108、还是按照305规则来读音不好确定，给人一个启示，语音的演变速度是非常快的，演变的方式总是在遵循某种规律。说英语的国家和地区那么多，单词的读音不可能那么统一，中国人说汉语也不那么统一，“呆”的读音就出现了积非成是的情况，“参差”一词的读音也是参差不齐。语音的错误是难免的，错误往往是合理的，大众主宰一切。中国人多，说英语的人也越来越多，对英语的影响也会越来越大，不管是好或不好的影响，对或错的影响。
