Health is wealth. This may be an old saying, but few people would argue with it. _(1)_, many people are now experiencing the newer pains of sitting for long hours in front of computer screens and not being able to keep their health in check. Luckily, technology is going to _(2)_ us to stay healthier and perhaps even happier.
The ErgoSensor computer monitor has a special built-in sensor that tells a user _(3)_ he or she is too close, has poor posture, and much more. This high-tech monitor was created by the Dutch company, Philips, in the hope of improving users' lives. _(4)_ monitoring computer users' bodies, these screens can make helpful suggestions. Similar to email alerts, the messages pop up in the lower right hand corner of the screen. If the monitor senses the user's head is tilted, a message will pop up suggesting the user's neck _(5)_ to avoid injuries. Also, when the user blinks infrequently, it is a sign to the monitor that they are tired. Therefore, a message suggesting a coffee break will appear.
The makers are aware that constant corrections could get _(6)_, which is why they designed them in pop-up form. This way, the alerts are easy to get as well as _(7)_ when needed. Technology has come a long way. With the advancements of the ErgoSensor computer monitor, one has to wonder what's next.

1. (A) Eventually(B) Unfortunately(C) Immediately(D) Efficiently
2. (A) have(B) make(C) arrange(D) enable
3. (A) what(B) which(C) whether(D) wherever
4. (A) For(B) By(C) Not until(D) As soon as
5. (A) be straightened(B) straightening(C) can straighten(D) will be straightened
6. (A) amusing(B) satisfying(C) inviting(D) annoying
7. (A) gather(B) depress(C) ignore(D) confirm

1. Unfortunately, many people are now experiencing the newer pains of sitting for long hours in front of computer screens and not being able to keep their health in check.理由:
a. (A) eventually adv.
We eventually found a solution to the problem.
(B) unfortunately adv.
fortunately adv.
例: I got a flat tire, and unfortunately, I didn't have a spare in the trunk.
(C) immediately adv.
The bright student knew the answer to the question immediately.
(D) efficiently adv.
I think Jack should get a bonus for working so efficiently.

2. Luckily, technology is going to enable us to stay healthier and perhaps even happier.理由:
The teacher had two students practice the dialogue in English.
arrange for sb to V安排某人(做)……
例: I arranged for Sam to meet the head of the organization.
c. enable sb to V使某人能够(做)……
例: Your donation will enable us to help more flood victims.

3.The ErgoSensor computer monitor has a special built-in sensor that tells a user whether he or she is too close, has poor posture, and much more. 理由:
I wonder whether he is able to finish the project on time or not.

4.By monitoring computer users' bodies, these screens can make helpful suggestions. 理由:
b. By + V-ing, S + V藉著 藉由……,……
例: By asking the right questions, the investigator got closer to solving the murder.
c. Not until...
Not until the day before the final exams did Ted start preparing for them.
d. As soon as + S + V, S + V一……就……
例: As soon as you arrive at the train station, please give me a call.
e. 本题空格之後为动名词 monitoring(监视),逗点後为直述句 these screens can make helpful suggestions(这款萤幕能做出有助益的建议),故 (C)、(D) 不可选。

5. If the monitor senses the user's head is tilted, a message will pop up suggesting the user's neck be straightened to avoid injuries. 理由:
suggest + that + S + (should) + V
Our teacher suggested that we start working on our projects as soon as possible.
b. straighten vt.
例: I injured my elbow in the game, so now I can't straighten my arm.

6. The makers are aware that constant corrections could get annoying, which is why they designed them in pop-up form. 理由:
a. (A) amusing a.
Denny is amusing to hang out with because he is always making jokes.
The potato salad was not only delicious but satisfying as well.
(C) inviting a.
例: On a cold winter's day, a hot spring can be very inviting.
(D) annoying a.
That annoying buzzing sound is driving me up a wall.

7. This way, the alerts are easy to get as well as ignore when needed. 理由:
a. (A) gather vt.
(B) depress vt.
The closing of the car factory depressed the local economy.
(C) ignore vt.
I tried to be friendly to my new classmates, but they just ignored me.
(D) confirm vt.
I confirmed the information and then went about writing my paper.

  1. keep...in check控制……
例: It surprises me how some people never keep their kids in check when eating out.
The hidden cameras helped the boss monitor his employees.
  3. in the hope of + V-ing 希望
例: Edward goes jogging each morning in the hope of getting in shape.
  4. be similar to...与……相似
例: Your taste in clothes is similar to mine.
Advertisements popped up on the screen each time I went to a new website.

Mary sensed that I was in a bad mood, so she left me alone.
  7. blink vi.
例: Why are you blinking? Is there something in your eye?
  8. infrequently adv.
    frequently adv.
Ted frequently goes to the library after school.
