or 和and :

a.       or用于连接并列的单词、词组、短语或句子,表示选择关系，意为“或者”、“还是”：

Is your friend a boy or a girl? 你的朋友是男孩还是女孩？

（a）v. +or + v. ; v. + or + not

     believe it or not

 (b) adj. + or + adj.

East or west, home is best.

(c) n. + or +n.

   Winter or summer, the sun is the same.

(d) v.ing + or + v. ing

   Walking or sleeping, she always has the question in her mind.

(e) adv. +or + adv.

   In or out, a spoiled child is often capricious.

(f) prep. phrase + or + prep. phrase

   In joy or in sorrow, he plods away at his lessons until he learrns.

b.       在否定句中连接两个或多个被共同否定的词项：

She can’t read or write.  她不会读，也不会写。

   Mike doesn’t like rice, bananas, eggs or bread.

c.       or 连接两个句子：祈使句或具有建议意义的句子，意为“如果不”、“否则”、“要不然”：

Go now, or you’ll be late.  现在走吧，要不然你就迟到了。

Hurry, or you’ll be late.   快点，否则你要迟到的。

注意：

1. Don’t drink and drive.  不许酒后开车。

Don’t drink or drive.  不许喝酒，也不许开车。

在否定句中使用and,  则表示连接起来的两个或两个以上的部分是作为结合起来的一个整体而被否定的。Don’t drink and drive. 这个口号所禁止的既不是单独的drink 也不是单独的drive这些行为，而是drink 和drive 结合在一起的行为。这就是说，or 具用分离意义，而and 具有结合的意义。

   She can’t sing or dance. 她不会唱歌，也不会跳舞。

   She can’t sing and dance. 她不能边唱歌边跳舞。

   You can’t eat your cake and have it. 你不能吃了蛋糕而又拥有它。

2. 否定句中的or ，在等于连接两个分句的and.

   There is no air or water in the moon.  = There is no air and no water on the moon.

We can't live without air and water.

在否定中并列结构用or 连接，但含有两个否定词的句子实际被看作是肯定结构，因此要用and。
