The Celestial Downtown Streets
Streetlight is on from far away,
Like numberless flashing stars.
Stars appear in the sky,
Like lighting unnumbered street lamps.
I think in that misty sky
There are certainly beautiful downtown streets.
Where some goods exhibiting,
Such rare goods that this world hardly contains.
Lo! That shallow celestial river,
Certainly is not so wide.
The Cowboy and Girl Weaver on its opposite sides,
Can certainly come and go across it, riding on a cow.
I think they, now,
Must be wandering in the Heaven Street.
If disbelieving, please looking at that meteor,
It is that they are walking, carrying a lantern.
In a Chinese legend they were once a happy couple and became stars
separated by the celestial river. They can meet only once a year on the
seventh day of the seventh moon in lunar calendar when magpies fly
together to form a bridge over the celestial river.
