WASHINGTON, Aug. 15 (Xinhua) -- Police in the U.S. capital are investigating a shooting case in the downtown area that left a security guard wounded at a conservative policy organization's headquarters on Wednesday morning, local law enforcement authorities said.
A gunman walked into the lobby of the Family Research Council office building near Washington D.C.'s Chinatown, and opened fire at around 10:45 a.m. local time. A security guard was shot in the arm while trying to wrestle the gunman to the ground, local police said.
The injured guard was in stable condition, while the male suspect was taken into custody without injury, confirmed Metropolitan Police Department spokesman Araz Alali.
The guard was "a hero" who "did his job" confronting the gunman, said Cathy Lanier, police chief of the Department.
