The two organizers behind a criminal gang which lured men into bars in Guangzhou which then charged them huge prices for alcohol, have been sentenced to 10 years and 10 year and half years in prison after being found guilty of fraud and transaction by force.

They are the first of 49 defendants charged in the case to stand trial at Haizhu district people's court.

More than 100 men were believed to have been victims of the gang, reported Nanfang Daily.

In one case, a victim was lured via Weixin, a voice-messaging service similar to WeChat in the West, by a woman to meet her in a bar operated by the gang, and then forced to buy over-priced alcohol.

During August, the ring is accused of fraudulently charging more than 310,000 yuan ($49,780) at one bar and more than 190,000 yuan at another bar, over just five days.
