SYDNEY, Jan. 18 (Xinhua) -- Australia's southeast state of New South Wales firefighters are facing a day of fierce fire conditions, with temperatures expected to climb into the 40s degree Celsius in Sydney and many other areas of the state, local media reported on Friday.

A total fire ban is in place across much of the state as hot and windy conditions return.

Currently, 84 bushfires are burning across the state, and 14 of them are uncontrolled.

The NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) said a fire in the Warrumbungle National Park in northwestern NSW broke containment lines on Friday morning.

The fire has already destroyed 51 homes, burning out 45,000 hectares of bushland in the Warrumbungle National Park.
