Special equipment accidents kill 45 in China( Xinhua) 20:51, November 29, 2013 BEIJING, Nov. 29 -- Accidents involving the use of special equipment such as elevatorsand boilers left 45 people dead and 65 injured in the third quarter of 2013, a governmentofficial said on Friday.
The death toll was 22 less than that in the same period last year, said Chen Xitong, aspokesman for the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection andQuarantine (AQSIQ).
Chen said that a lack of safety awareness, improper use of equipment and slack securitymanagement at work sites had led to the accidents.
He added that the AQSIQ has asked local authorities to strengthen checks of specialequipment to ensure public safety.
