Instead of splendor of a metropolis, tourists are firstly impressed by the synergy ofmodern cityscape and historical architectural treasure in Taipei. Wherever you are inTaipei, downtown or remote small towns, the distinct style will give you a rough idea aboutwhen the buildings were built.
The streets in Dihua, Danshuei, Dasi and Sansia were shaped during the boom time of rivertransport in the early years of the last century. Building style in these towns follows thestandards of Minguo period (1912-1949) with a mixture of western and oriental pattern. The streets’ general feature retains although revamps were made from time to time.
Every old street has its own specialty. For instance, the Dihua Street, the oldest street inTaiwan, is known for groceries, tea shops and cloth stores in normal times and two weeksbefore Chinese New Year, it will become a crowed festive market selling necessities for theNew Year.
The old streets also offer authentic Taipei cuisines and snacks. The flavor passed on overgenerations lures both locals and tourists to join the long queues in front of the renownedold stores every day.
The city’s vigor doesn’t fall asleep at night. Night markets in Taipei make tourists busywith a taste adventure. The food stalls in night markets could not guarantee theauthenticity and delicacy but they definitely represent a part of real life in Taipei.
