A Fine Balance by Indian-born Canadian writer Rohinton Mistry ranked in second place, followed by Rashomon and One Thousand and One Nights.

【讲解】
文中的The Dream of the Red Chamber就是“红楼梦”的意思。《红楼梦》是中国古代四大名著（The Four Great Classical Novels of Chinese literature）之一，其他三本名著分别为《水浒传》（Water Margin）、《西游记》（Journey to the West）和《三国演义》（Romance of the Three Kingdoms）。
此外，文中第一段的top用作动词，解释为“居……之首，为……之冠”。top the chart或top the list就是“高居榜首”的意思。
