  as it is/was 的两个特殊用法

as it is/was 是一个固定结构，可置于句首或句末，但用法有所区别。

 

● 位于句首（指置于句子主语之前），意思是“实际上”、“其实”，"照目前情况", 此时 it 不指

     代任何具体事物。用法上相当于 in fact, as a matter of fact 或 so to speak。

 

     1）I though things would get batter, but as it is they are getting worse.

           原本我想事情会好转，而事实上它们变得更糟。

  2）If I had known what to do, everything would have been all right. As it was everything wnet wrong.

       我要是知道该做什么，一切就都会好了，而事实上，一切都很糟糕。

3）Don’t blame them for it. As it was，they did help us．

这件事不要责怪他们，事实上他们帮了我们不少忙。

     4）No one believed it，but as it was Tom did get an A on his book report．

虽然没有人相信，但事实上汤姆这次读书报告的确得了“A”。

5）As it is，we need to improve the equipment in our factory righ now．

照目前情况，我们确实需要立刻改进我厂的设备。

6）I thought I might be transferred，but as it is I shall have to look for a new job.

我以为我本可以调动工作，照目前情况看来（而事实上）我得另找工作了。

 

● 位于句末，意思是“照现在这个样子”、“照原来这个样子”， 此时it在句中起指代

   作用，指前面提到的某具体事物。

 

 1）Be that as it may, I'll leave it as it is.

无论如何我们也只能听其自然。（as it is中it 指前面的it）

2）Leave the table as it is. Do not disturb the things on it.  

那桌子就那样吧，不要动上面的东西。（it 指the table）

  3）Tell me what has happened as it is; don't beat about the bush.   （it 指what）

如实告诉我究竟怎么了, 不要兜圈子。

     4）At any rate, we cannot accept any more work; we have more than we can cope with as it is.

           不管怎样，我们不能再接受任何工作了，我们现在能承担的工作已够多的了。（it 指 work）

     5）The only sensible path is to deal with the world as it is, not as we might like it to be.

唯一明智的方法就是顺其自然地处理任何事情，而不是按我们希望的去处理。（it指 the 

world ）

     6）All the workers had hoped the manager would change the situation, but to their disappointment, 

           everything remained at it is.

工人们都希望经理能改变现状，但令他们失望的是一切仍旧。 （it指everything）

 

△ 如果是复数事物则需用as they are/were。

 

1）Don’t conceal anything from me; just state the facts as they are.

不要对我有任何隐瞒，就按事实陈述。（they指facts）

2）Intelligence is quickness in seeing things as they are.  

智慧就是迅速看出事物本来面目的能力。（they指things）
