The rare things are always in the Yue mountain which is a most legendary mountain. The tea---Chuan, a ferns--- spreads all over the valley. It grows in the rich and ferttle soil, watered by the timely rainfall. In the early autumn, the farmers, in twos and threes, are busy in picking tea-leaves. The tea-leaves must be cooked in the cleanest water from the fountain and in the pot which must be made of the pottery from Dongyu. One can drink the tea using a half of abobora, just as how Gongliu did. Now this is the most tasteful tea. It is like the glowing of the snow and as bright as the growing in the spring.
The above is the “Ode” by Du Yu, one of the famous writers of the Western Jin Dynasty. He is as renown as Zuo Si and Qi Ming. This Ode is the first ode to tea. It describes the growing environment, the pick time, the water used in the cooking, the tes-things and how the tea tastes and looks. As to the sentence ” in the pot which must be made of the pottery from Dongyu ”, most people think that the tea pot should be the Ou ware from the eastern area. Here, Yu is Ou. Ou ware is in the neighborhood of Wenzhou、Yongjia of Zhejiang province. The porcelain body of Ou ware is white, the texture fine, the glazing color pale blue with much pellucidity.. It is called “pale green porcelain” in Jin dynasty.
