英语中表示“解雇”、“辞退”、“炒鱿鱼“的动词常用 dismiss、sack、fire 这三 个词。如此以外，英语口语中也有几个俚语都有“解雇”、“辞退”、“炒鱿鱼”的 意思。
A）get the sack 和 give sb. the sack 是口语中用得比较多的俚语。 1）Don’t offend your boss, or he would give you the sack at any time. 不要得罪那老板，否则的话他随时炒你的鱿鱼。 2）He got the sack when they found out that he'd lied about his qualifications. 他们发现他谎报自己的资历，于是把他解雇了。 3）If you are late again the boss will give you the sack. 如如果你再迟到，老板就会把你解雇。 4）If the foreman catches you lying down on the job he'll probably give you the sack. 要是工头撞见你在磨洋工，他很可能炒你的鱿鱼。
B）get the boot 和give sb. the boot 字面意思是“得到靴子”，“给某人靴 子”就是被踢了一脚，叫你走路的意思，引申被解雇、被炒鱿鱼的意思。
1）Ever since I got the boot from my job, money has been tight. 從我被辞退后，手頭一直很緊。 2）Which congressmen will get the boot from the voters in the next election? 下一届选举哪些议员会被踢出国会？ 3）She gave him the boot because he wouldn't stop talking about his ex-girlfriends. 是谈论他的前女友，所以她给把他踢了。 4）The company gave him the boot for swearing at his manager. 他咒骂他的经理，公司把他辞了。
C）get the axe 和 give sb. the axe 字面意思是“到斧子”和 “给某人斧 子”，这里 axe 是“砍”的意思，引申出被解雇、被炒鱿鱼的意思。
1）Lakshmi got the axe from her job because she often took leave without permission. 拉克希的工作被辞了，因为她经常未经允许擅自离开。 2）Senior staff are more likely to get the axe because the company can't afford their high salaries. 高级职员更有可能被炒，因为公司负担不起他们的高薪水。 3）I’m afraid that some of us will be given the axe because of the incident. 我担心我们当中会有人因为这次事件而被炒鱿鱼。 4）With so few orders some the workers are bound to be gvien the axe. 定单这么少，肯定将会有些工人会被解雇。
D）get the heave-ho 和 give sb. heave-ho heave-ho 是“抛弃”、“扔 掉”的意思，get the heave-ho 和 give sb. heave-ho 指 （被）开除或解雇。
1）In my opinion, he should simply get the heave-ho for his irresponsibility. 依我之见，他就应该因他的不负责任而被开除。 2）If you continue to behave in this way, I’ll have to give you the heave-ho from the company. 如果你继续这样的行为，我得把你从公司撵走。 3）Our company had to give our accountant the heave-ho after we had an audit that found out over 75,000 was missing from our bank account and the accountant couldn't explain why. 我们查帐时发现我们银行帐户里少了七万五千美元，会计也说不清原委。公司只好 把这个会计解雇了。
E）get the pink slip pink slip “粉红的小纸条”， 在美国公司老板如果要解聘员 工，就在员工的工作袋里加一张“粉红色纸条”，说明雇员被解雇的原因。约定成 俗，pink ship 就成了解雇通知书的同义词。
1）He told them they better shape up or they'll get a pink slip. 他告诉他们要好好干，否则会被解雇。 2）When the XYZ company’s sales fell in half for the second year in row, many of it’s employees got the pink slip. XYZ 公司的销售额连续第二年下降了一半，许多员工拿到了解雇通知书。 3）Christmas is around the corner; no one likes to get a pink slip during the holidays. 圣诞节即将来临，谁都不愿在假期中收到解雇通知。
