A move of filial piety? College girl posts to borrow 2 million to buy house for parents

Fan Shibei, a 21-year-old girl from Sichuan Normal University, posted online that she expects to borrow 2 million yuan to purchase a house in the city for her parents and promises to repay the money in 15 years, with the interest and all the fortune she hopes to make through the rest of her life.

Professor Hu Guangwei holds that under the market economy, a fresh graduate is not qualified to receive loans from others. “The beautiful girls like her should keep their personal integrity, work with a down-to-earth attitude and still may not come up with such unrealistic idea.” He adds that it would be filial piety if she earned merely 3000 yuan for her parents by herself. However, the money borrowed from others would not testify her dutiful behaviors, of which her parents would feel unpalatable deep down.

Fan Shibei was born in the country of Yibin, Sichuan in 1993. Her parents are both farmers and her father is 67 years old now. She has two brothers whom are around 30 years old. When she was 14, her family moved to Luzhou, where her father rented a store to make a living and her mother stayed at home due to illness. The family of five lives in a small compartment behind the store. The two brothers fail to support the family, and even worse, they entirely rely on their father, who is over 60. Fan Shibei says, to extend gratitude to their nurture, she wishes her parents could have a better life for their afterlife.

Fan Shibei was influenced greatly by the news that an old couple passes away suddenly after reporting safety to their son. This touched her, so she decided to bring a better life to her parents as soon as possible and avoid such tragedy occuring in her family.

As Fan Shibei graduates from Sichuan Normal University, she has already born a career plan in her mind. She intends to dedicate 5 years to English learning, becoming the well-paid tour guide in the future and plans to repay the 2 million yuan in 15 years.

Han Bin, Fan Shibei’s friend who helps posting her request online, says: “There are no moral issues or virtue problems on her. I understand and support her in that she has a reasonable starting point.”
