hit the sack=go to bed

e.g. I hit the sack every day at 11:30 and get up at 8. I'm not exactly a morning person. (sleeping)

be under the weather

e.g. My mom was always under the weather two years ago, but then she began jogging. She is pretty fit now. (sports/person)

don't judge a book by its cover

e.g. At first, Alice didn't seem to be an approachable person, but it turned out I was wrong. You can't judge a book by its cover. (person)

between a rock and a hard place

e.g. Lucy was pretty keen on electronic devices, but I couldn't afford to buy a smartphone or an Ipad, so I was between a rock and a hard place. (gift)

give sb. the cold shoulder

e.g. Some people quit their jobs because they don't get along with their colleagues. I mean, if people always give you a cold shoulder when you walk into the office, I doubt you will keep working there for a long time. (job)
