约翰·威廉姆·沃特豪斯（John William
Waterhouse）（1849年4月6日--1917年2月10日）是英国前拉斐尔派画家。擅长描绘神话的女性，被称为“现代前拉斐尔派”，很大胆地借鉴法国印象派的绘画技法到他的作品了。沃特豪斯出生在意大利罗马，小时候取了一个意大利语外号叫“尼诺”。父亲是英国约克郡人，是个功底坚实的画家，母亲是意大利人。沃特豪斯从小受到父亲影响，很早就显示了绘画天分，亲戚朋友都戏称他为尼诺，即意大利文艺复兴时代大师乔凡尼诺的简称。由于沃特豪斯早年在意大利生活过8年时间，所以对希腊神话非常喜欢，以至后来多以希腊神话为作画题材。
沃特豪斯晚期艺术在题材寓意上日趋模糊，失去了早年的深度，表现力也大为减弱，其艺术也逐步失去应有的光彩。
1883年他与一位美术学校校长的女儿结婚，后生两孩子，都死于产难。他妻子也是曾经在皇家艺术学院的展览会上有参展作品的画家。绘画之余沃特豪斯从事美术教学工作，任过皇家艺术学院委员会委员，而加入各种艺术协会。浪漫如梦幻般的唯美画作，虽然他意想成为拉斐尔前派的风格，然而表现的是属於自我灵感的特殊形式。他的成功不仅在表现感官上的完美，同时能使人用自我认知、自我世界来阐述之，他1917年死于癌症。
