《灰姑娘》Cinderella从前，有一位长得很漂亮的女孩，她有两位心地不好的继姐。她经常受到两位姐姐的欺负，被逼着去做粗重的工作，经常弄得全身满是灰尘，因此被戏称为“灰姑娘”。后来，她在仙女教母的帮助下参加了王子的晚宴，王子一看到她便被她迷住了，立即邀她共舞。午夜离开时，她在仓皇间留下了一只水晶鞋。王子很伤心，于是派大臣至全国探访，终于找出能穿上这只水晶鞋的女孩。王子很开心，便向灰姑娘求婚，灰姑娘也答应了，两人从此过着幸福快乐的日子。

ONCE UPON A TIME there was a little girl called Cinderella. Her mother was dead and she lived with her father and two stepsisters.
很久很久以前，有个小姑娘叫辛德瑞拉。她的母亲过世了，她和她的父亲以及两个同父异母的姐姐住在一起。
Cinderella’s stepsisters were fair of face but, because they were bad-tempered and unkind, their faces grew to look ugly. They were jealous of Cinderella because she was lovely child, and so they were often unkind to her.
辛德瑞拉的姐姐们都有美丽的面容，但因为她们脾气糟糕而且对人不友善，她们长得越来越丑。他们非常嫉妒辛德瑞拉，因为她是个可爱的孩子，也因此她们两个经常欺负辛德瑞拉。
The stepsisters made Cinderella do all the work in the house. She worked from morning till night without stopping.
辛德瑞拉的两个姐姐让她包揽了所有的家务，她要从早到晚不停地工作。
Cinderella not only did all the housework but she also helped her stepsisters to dress. She cleaned their shoes, brushed their hair, tied their ribbons and fastened their buckles.
辛德瑞拉不仅要做所有的家务，还要帮姐姐们着装。她给她们擦鞋、梳头、系发带，还要扣束腰。
The sisters had many fine clothes, but all Cinderella had was an old dress and a pair of wooden shoes.
她的姐姐们有很多漂亮衣服，但辛德瑞拉只有一条破旧的裙子和一双木鞋。
After she had worked until she was weary, Cinderella had no bed to go to. She had to sleep by the hearth in the cinders. That was why her stepsisters called her Cinderella and that was why she always looked dusty and dirty.
辛德瑞拉在做完疲惫的工作后还没有床可以睡，她只能睡在暖炉边的煤渣里。就因为这个，她的姐姐们叫她灰姑娘，因为她总是看上去灰头土脸，脏兮兮的。
Now it happened that the king arranged a great feast for his son. The feast was to last three days and on each evening there was to be a grand ball. All the beautiful young girls in the country were invited, in order that the prince might choose himself a bride.
如今正巧，国王为他的儿子安排了一场盛大的宴会，宴会要举办三天，每天晚上都有一场豪华的舞会。全国所有的年轻姑娘都被邀请了，如此一来王子或许可以从中选出自己的新娘。
Cinderella’s stepsisters were invited to the feast. Cinderella was not invited. Everyone thought that she was her sisters’ maid.

On the evening of the first ball, Cinderella had to help her sisters to get dressed. Cinderella thought of how she would like to go to the ball and tears began to run down her face.
在第一场舞会的傍晚，辛德瑞拉不得不帮助姐姐们着装。她是那么想去参加舞会，思及此禁不住泪流满面。
“I would like to wear a beautiful dress and go to the ball,” said Cinderella.
“我也想穿漂亮的裙子去参加舞会。”辛德瑞拉说。
“A fine sight you would be at a ball!” laughed the stepsisters. When they had left, poor Cinderella sat down and cried. Suddenly, she heard a voice saying, “What is the matter, my dear?” There stood her fairy godmother, smiling kindly at her.
“你出席的话一定会成为一道亮丽的风景！”姐姐们嘲笑她说。她们离开后，可怜的辛德瑞拉坐下哭了起来。突然有一个声音传来：“怎么了亲爱的？”她的仙女教母站在那儿，和蔼微笑地看着她。
“I would like to go to the ball,” said Cinderella.
“我想去参加舞会。”辛德瑞拉说。
“And so you shall, my dear,” said her fairy godmother. “Dry your eyes and then do exactly as I tell you.”
“那你就应该去，亲爱的，”仙女教母说，“擦干你的眼泪，然后照我说的去做。”
“First, go into the garden and bring me the biggest pumpkin you can find,” said the fairy godmother.
“首先，给我找来你能找到的最大的南瓜。”仙女教母说。
“Very well,” said Cinderella and she ran off to the garden. She picked the biggest pumpkin she could find and took it to her fairy godmother.
“好的。”辛德瑞拉说着就跑去了花园。她挑了一个最大的南瓜带去给她的仙女教母。
The fairy godmother touched the pumpkin with her magic wand. Immediately, it turned into the most wonderful golden carriage you can imagine. The inside was lined with red velvet.
仙女教母用法杖碰了一下南瓜，南瓜一下子变成了一辆超乎想象的黄金马车，里面系着红色的丝绒。
“Now run and fetch me the mousetrap from the pantry,” said the fairy godmother.
“现在去餐具室拿个捕鼠器来。”仙女教母说。
Cinderella ran off to the pantry. She found the mousetrap on the floor. There were six mice in it.
辛德瑞拉跑去餐具室，在地上发现了一个捕鼠器，里面有六只老鼠。
Cinderella brought the mousetrap to her fairy godmother. One touch of the magic wand and the mice turned into six fine grey horses.
辛德瑞拉把捕鼠器拿去给仙女教母。仙女教母用法杖碰了一下，六只老鼠变成了六匹英俊潇洒的灰马。
“Next, fetch me the rat trap from the cellar,” said the fairy godmother.
“然后去酒窖里给我拿一只被陷阱困住的大老鼠。”仙女教母说。
Cinderella ran down the steps to the cellar. She found the rat trap, with one rat in it, and took it to her fairy godmother.
辛德瑞拉跑进酒窖，找到了一只被陷阱困住的大老鼠，并把它带给了仙女教母。
One touch of the fairy wand and the rat changed into a smart coachman, dressed in red livery trimmed with gold braid.
仙女教母用法杖碰了一下，大老鼠变成了一位机灵的马车夫，穿着红色的制服，缀以金色的轧带。
“Lastly,” said Cinderella’s fairy godmother, “I want you to bring me the two lizards that are behind the cucumber frame at the bottom of the garden.”
“最后，”仙女教母说，“我要你去花园底部的黄瓜架后面抓两只蜥蜴来。”
Cinderella ran into the garden and there she found two small lizards.
辛德瑞拉跑进花园并找到了两只小蜥蜴。
Cinderella’s fairy godmother touched the lizards with her fairy wand. They turned into two smart footmen.
仙女教母用她的法杖碰了一下蜥蜴，他们变成了两位机灵的侍者。
There was now a golden coach, lined with red velvet, drawn by six grey horses. There was a coachman, in red livery, to drive the coach, and two fine footmen to open the doors.
现在有了一辆黄金马车，系着红色丝绒，由六匹灰色骏马拉着；还有一个车夫，穿着红色的制服驾着马车；以及两个英俊的侍者负责开门。
Cinderella ran into the garden and found two small lizareds.
辛德瑞拉跑进花园，发现了两只小蜥蜴。
