Born in 1969 in Switzerland, Steeve Iuncker lives and works in Geneva.
He studied at the Photography School in Vevey.  Steeve Iuncker was awarded many times, most recently with the Nicolas Bouvier Prize in 2012 and the Photography Prize of the Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle in 2013.

He undertakes photographing the cities of the superlatives.

This project started in 2013 with ? The coldest city in the world ? in Siberia.

Yakutsk, which is located in the north of Oriental Siberia, is known for its winter temperatures that regularly reach -122°F.  The city is engulfed in a thick and oppressive blanket of freezing fog that restricts visibility to 10 meters, and out of which, emerges once in a while some dark and heavy figures, hurried by the intensity of the cold. Inhabitants do their shopping in conditions that only Everest’s mountaineers could sustain.
Here, everything is ice, everyday, which makes us then think about what such extremes can generate within people.
