Molly Lou Melon stood just taller than her dog and was the shortest girl in the first grade. She didn’t mind. Her grandma had told her, 'Walk as proudly as you can and the world will look up to you.'

小莫莉只比她的狗高一点点，是一年级最矮的女孩儿。她一点儿也不在意。她的奶奶告诉她，“骄傲地走路，整个世界都会仰视你。”

So she did.

所以，她就这么做了。

Molly Lou Melon had buck teeth that stuck out so far, she could stack pennies on them. She didn’t mind. Her grandma had told her, 'Smile big and the world will smile right along side you.'

小莫莉长着大门牙，特别突出，甚至可以在上面堆硬币。她一点儿也不在意。她的奶奶告诉她，“尽情地大笑吧，整个世界也会和你一起笑的！”

So she did.

Molly Lou Melon had a voice that sounded like a bullfrog being squeezed by a boa constrictor. She didn’t mind. Her grandma had told her, 'Sing out clear and strong and the world will cry tears of joy.'

小莫莉的嗓音就像是一只大蟒蛇咀嚼青蛙的声音，但是她并不在意。她的奶奶告诉她，“大声唱歌吧，整个世界都会被你的歌声感动的。”

So she did.

所以，她就这么做了。

Molly Lou Melon was often fumble fingered. She didn’t mind. Her grandma had told her, 'Believe in yourself and the world will believe in you too.'

小莫莉总是笨手笨脚的。但是她并不在意。她的奶奶告诉她，“相信你自己，世界也会相信你的。”

So she did.

所以，她就这么做了。

Then Molly Lou Melon moved to a new town. She had to say good-bye to her grandma and all of her friends... and start in a new school.

小莫莉要搬到一个新镇子去了。她要和奶奶还有她的朋友道别，开始新的学校生活。

On the first day of school, Ronald Durkin called her 'SHRIMPO!' in gym class.

第一天上学那天，罗纳德·德金在体育课上叫她“小矮子！”

When the game started, Molly Lou Melon caught the football, ran under the legs of Ronald Durkin, and scored a touchdown. All the children thought, 'Wow, she’s good!' and Ronald Durkin felt very foolish.

游戏刚开始的时候，小莫莉抢到了足球，她从罗纳德·德金腿下穿过，触地得分。所有的孩子都在想，“哇哦，她好棒！”罗纳德·德金觉得特别傻。

On the second day of school, Ronald Durkin called her 'BUCKY-TOOTH BEAVER!' Molly Lou Melon took out her pennies, stacked ten on her teeth, and smiled as big as day. All the children smiled with glee and Ronald Durkin felt very foolish.

第二天上学的时候，罗纳德·德金叫她“龅牙海狸”。小莫莉拿出她的硬币，然后高高地堆在她的牙齿上，笑得非常开心。所有的孩子也都笑得很开心。罗纳德·德金觉得很傻。

On the third day of school, Ronald Durkin said, 'You sound like a sick duck –HONKHONK!'

第三天上学的时候，罗纳德·德金说，“你说话听起来就像是一个病怏怏的鸭子——哄，哄！”

Molly Lou Melon sang out a “QUACK!” so clear and strong that it made Ronald Durkin somersault backwards, hit his head, and have to go to the nurse. All the children cried with joy to be free of Ronald Durkin for the rest of the afternoon and Ronald Durkin felt very foolish.

小莫莉唱了一声“嘎”，又清晰又响亮，把罗纳德·德金吓得后退了几步，翻了个跟头，撞到了头，要去找护士。整个下午，罗纳德·德金都不在，所有孩子都很开心。罗纳德·德金觉得很傻。

On the fourth day of school, Ronald Durkin said that she’d made the snowflake all wrong. But Molly Lou Melon opened up her paper and revealed the most beautiful snowflake of all. All the children oohed and aahed, even Ronald Durkin.

第四天上学的时候，罗纳德·德金说小莫莉把雪花做得乱糟糟的。但是小莫莉打开她的纸，给所有人展示了世界上最美的雪花。所有孩子都惊叹不已，甚至是罗纳德·德金。

On the fifth day of school, Ronald Durkin brought Molly Lou Melon a stacking penny for her tooth and smiled at her.

第五天上学的时候，罗纳德·德金给小莫莉带了一堆硬币放在她的牙齿上，笑着看着她。

That night Molly Lou Melon took out a pencil and paper and wrote a letter to her grandma:

那天晚上，小莫莉拿出一只笔和一张纸，给她的奶奶写了一封信：

Dear Grandma,

亲爱的奶奶

I wanted to tell you that everything

you told me was exactly right!
