Mrs. Waller (U.S.):In my house,when it's your birthday, you wear a crown all day. That's a little like being aking.

 

Zack (U.S.): We go out for ice cream. At astore near us, it's free on your birthday. Everyone sings Happy Birthday. Atnight, while we're asleep, my dad fills the bedroom with balloons. My mom has aspecial tablecloth. Every year on our birthday, we put our handprints andfootprints on it. It's like it grows with us. After dinner, we play Hide thePresents. When it's your birthday, you get to find them.

 

Jenny (Australia): They eat fairy cakes.First you butter some soft bread. Then you cut the bread into different shapeswith cookie cutters. Then you put sprinkles on top.

 

Jenny (U.K.): My English grandma used tomake fortune-telling cakes. She would mix little objects into the cake. If yougot a piece with a coin in it, it meant you'd be rich.

 

Tami (Vietnam): Everyone's birthday iscelebrated on New Year's Day. It's called Tet. New Year's Day is alsoeveryone's birthday! On the first morning of Tet, children get red envelopeswith 'lucky money' inside.

 

Anya (Russia): In Russia, they also hangparty favors from a clothesline. They decorate it with ribbons and balloons.Then everyone takes a turn reaching for a party favor. The hard part is thatyou have to do it with your eyes closed.
