Good evening, my dear friends. This is Jenny.

I am very lucky because I have a friend who always inspires me to do something that I think I am not capable of. When I was worried about choosing major, she said that I was patient and good at English, and then I picked the major I was studying at college. I wonder if you guys have an inspiring friend as I do.

我有一个很会激励我的朋友，她总是激励我去完成我觉得不可能的事情。当年选专业的时候很头疼，因为不知道自己适合什么。于是她说你很耐心而且擅长英语，为什么不报和英语相关的师范类专业呢？ 听了她这话觉得醍醐灌顶，于是成为了我大学四年的专业。不知道你们有没有这样一位朋友呢？

Inspire，启迪，启发，词根是spire，我们今天从词根spire出发谈谈其延伸的单词吧。

1、spire. n. [建] 尖顶；尖塔；螺旋。这是建筑学上的词语，比如上海的东方之珠，就有着尖顶，高耸入云。作为动词时有螺旋式上升的意思，让我想起政治书里有一句话，寻求真理是波浪式前进，螺旋式上升的。

尖顶是建筑的标志。

2、inspire.正如篇头所说是激励、启发的意思，名词形式是inspiration。

His speech inspired the soldiers.

他的演说使士兵们大受鼓舞。

inspire sb. with 激起某人的……

inspire her with confidence 鼓舞她让她有信心

容易混淆的是，with后面可以接激励的手段，比如父母会用钱激励孩子，inspire children with money.

3、aspire. vi. 渴望；立志；追求

He aspired to become a lawyer.

他渴望成为一名律师。

名词形式是aspiration，渴望；抱负的意思。
