What is SOHO? 

顾名思义就是在家办公。同理,外贸SOHO就是一些依靠个人力量在家办公的外贸业务员。

Just as the name implies that it means Small Office / Home Office. In a similar way, foreign trade SOHO means foreign traders who work at home on their own.


外贸SOHO是一些做了一段时间外贸,积累了工作经验,客户经验和资金的人,在条件成熟以后,出来自己单干的外贸人。

外贸SOHO要担任很多角色,还有对各个职位了如指掌,熟悉外贸的一系列流程。

It refers to your foreign trade proficiencies. Traders should be familiar with the whole process from developing customers to tax reimbursement so that you can make sure there won't be any mistakes. 


因为外贸各环节都容易出错,而且出错后就是非常挠头的问题。

Because it's easy for traders to make mistakes during foreign trade processes and it will be very troublesome.


第二:外语素质。

如今外语人才队伍日益扩大,外贸业务员一般都需要有点英语功底的,

因为外贸公司大多在大城市的市中心,而工厂都在比较偏一点的郊区或者三四线城市。

Top5:外贸新人第一次接国外电话会不会紧张?

外贸新人会经历很多第一次,

Foreign trade newcomers will experience several first try:


第一次接到询盘:欣喜若狂,好象吃了蜜一般。

When they first receive the inquiry, they will be wild with joy as if they've eaten the honey.


第一次接电话:会冒汗,非常紧张。有些确实是听不懂,而且自己语无伦次。

When they first pick up the phone, they will be so nervous that they sweat. Indeed, some of them don't understand and they are incoherent.


第一次和老外会晤:谈话开始会很紧张,但是过后会信心大长。

Top6:外贸业务具体是做什么?

What's foreign trader concretely do?

工厂:

Plant:

贸易就是一个买卖的过程,工厂是将产品生产出来以后卖给国外采购商的一个过程,

Trade means buying and selling. Plants manufacture products and sell them to foreign purchasers.


而国外的采购商其实也是进口以后卖给国外的零售商的。

And foreign purchasers sell them to their suppliers after importing the goods.

外贸业务员:

其任务就是寻找国外的客户。对自己工厂的产品熟悉以后,通过技术人员以及你的老板知道你产品的最低价,

Their missions are to find or develop foreign customers. After getting familiar with their products, they will know floor prices through technicists and their bosses. 


然后加上一定的利润,通过自己的外贸平台将产品销售出去。这就是外贸业务员基本岗位职责,当然你厉害的话可能会身兼多职。

With some profits, they market products on their own foreign trade platform. This is what they basically do. Certainly, if you are capable, you may play multiple roles. 

外贸公司的操作:

则是买进工厂的产品,然后卖给国外的进口商。

Top7:外贸行业有“性别歧视”么?是不是女业务员一定比男业务员要容易起步?

可能是因为女业务员容易得到客户的信任,亲和力会更好一点等等,客户又一般都是男性,所以可能会更加容易促进交易,特别在电话销售这一方面有先天的优势。

但是在面会的情况下男性也有优势,男性会更给一种专业 ,专注,有实力的外表形象。

所以男生也不要失去信心,因为可靠资料显示,最后将外贸业务做大的,大部分都是男性。

原因是,大部分女孩子会相对比较容易知足,而且会成家等。

The reason is most of the ladies are more likely to feel content and they will get married soon.


而男性野心也会比较大,当你做得越来越好的时候,你就越不满足现状,所以大部分能做得起来的男业务员最后都会SOHO或者自己创业成立公司。

 Most of the men are ambitious and when they have made some achievements, it's not likely for them to be satisfied with current situations hence most of the salesmen will do SOHO and found their own companies.

TOP8:外贸业务员都有什么平台?

网络平台很大,包括B2B,搜索引擎以及一些行业网站等。

Network platform is pretty large including B2B, search enging and some trade sites.


B2B是专业商业网站,大家熟悉的有alibaba,中国制造,环球资源等。

B2B includes professional business websites such as Alibaba, MADE-IN-CHINA, Global Sources.


搜索引擎比较多用的是yahoo,google,康帕斯等。

The most common search enginges are Yahoo and Google as well as Compass.


展会平台:

Exhibition platform:

其实展会平台才是最直接最有效的平台,因为可以直接和外商面对面的交流,但是花费相对比较大。

Actually, exhibition platform is the most straightforward and effective platfform because you can communicate with foreign merchants face-to-face but it usually costs a lot.


国内出名的综合性展会有广交会(中国出口贸易交易会),华交会(上海),以及义博会(义乌)。其他的专业展会国内国外都有。

Well-known comprehensive exhibitions include Canton Fair (The China Import and Export Fair), East China Fair (Shanghai) as well as Yiwu fair (Yiwu). There are lots of professional exhibitions in both home and abroad.

TOP9:外贸工作好找吗? 

Is it easy to find a foreign trade job?

好找,但是找好的,很难。现在的外贸专业的教育存在严重的问题,同市场和企业的需求脱节了。

The answer is yes. However, it's not easy to find a good one. There are severe problems in education of foreign trade which is detached from the need of markets and enterprises. 


不少学生大学外贸学了4年,学了几十们课程,英语至少要六级,很多英语专业的更是过了专八。但实际用处不大。

Lots of students have learnt foreign trade for 4 years and tens of courses who have passed CET 6.And for some students major in English, they have passed TEM 8 but it doesn't work much as expected.


进了企业还要重新学。由于企业内部竞争也很激烈,一般很难遇到愿意教你的领导和同事,所以这就可以想见结果了。

They need to relearn those knowledges again after entering the enterprises. On account of fierce  internal competition in enterprises, generally it's hard to meet leaders or colleagues who are willing to help teaching you. Well, that's the result.


深层次的原因,简单点说,中国企业基本还是处于世界分工的底层,要靠廉价劳动力,大量耗费资源来生存,除了极少数的顶级企业,其他的并不需要太高层次的外贸人才,没机会用。

In brief, for underlying reasons, Chinese enterprises are basically at the bottom of the world beacuse they depend on cheap labor force and they need to spend a great number of resources, Apart from a very few top enterprises, those enterprises don't need high-class foreign trade talents because they have no chances to use.


懂国际惯例,会洽谈,签合同,能完成外贸流程就基本够了,如果指导的好,这些学一年足够了。

It's basically fine if you can know international conventions and are able to negotiate and sign contracts. With a good teacher, it will only take you a year to learn all of these.
