◆danger n.

1. 泛指一般意义的“危险”，通常是不可数名词。表示做某事的危险或发生某情况的危险等，通常后接of (doing) sth, 而不接不定式。如：

Is there any danger of fire (infection)? 有发生火灾的(感染)的危险吗?

The children didn’t realize the danger of swimming in the river. 孩子们没有意识到在这河里游泳的危险。

注意通常不说……the danger to swim in the river.

比较以下后接 in doing sth 的句型：

Is there any danger in climbing the tree? 爬这树有危险吗?

用于短语 in danger (of)，意为“在危险中”。如：

His life is in danger. 他有生命危险。

He is in danger of losing his life. 他有生命危险。

We’re in danger of being hit by a stone. 我们有被石头砸的危险。

2. 表示具体意义的造成危险的原因或人(物)等，或指威胁、危害等。是可数名词。如：

He is a danger to society. 他对社会是个危险人物。

Do you know the dangers of smoking? 你知道吸烟的危害吗?

1. 表示“危险的”，指本身对他人或他物有危险。如：

The dog looks dangerous. 这狗看来有(咬人的)危险。

It’s a dangerous bridge. 那是座危险的桥。

比较：

The man is dangerous. 这人很危险。(即对他人造成危险)

The man is in danger. 这人有危险。(即自己处于危险中)

2. 可用于 It’s dangerous for sb to do sth, 但不用于 Sb is dangerous to do sth 或后接 that 从句。如：

人们在这条河里游泳很危险。

误：It’s dangerous that people swim in the river.

误：People are dangerous to swim in the river.

正：It’s dangerous for people to swim in the river.

比较：The river is dangerous to swim in. (正)

The river is dangerous for swimmers. (正)

◆dare v.

1. 用作情态动词，主要用于否定句、疑问句或条件从句中。如：

Dare you ask him? 你敢问他吗?

They dared not come. 他们不敢来了。

If you dare speak to me like that again, you will be sorry. 你敢再这样对我说，你会后悔的。

注：I dare say 是习惯说法，并不一定要译为“我敢说”。它所表示的是一种不肯定的语气，常译为“很可能”、“大概”、“我想”等。有时用作反语。如：

I dare say (that) you are right. 我想你是对的。

Oh, you mean to win? I dare say you will. 啊，你想打赢?

我且看你赢吧。

作为情态动词，dare 没有单数第三人称形式，但有过去式。如： No one dared speak of it. 没有人敢谈及此事。

但是尽管有过去式，人们还是常用现在式表示过去或后接完成式动词。如：

Mother dare(d) not tell father she’d given away his old jacket. 母亲不敢告诉父亲她把他的旧上衣送人了。

I didn’t like their new house though I daren’t have said so. 我不喜欢他们的新房子，虽然我没敢这样说过。
