Today we are gonna talk about English 900. A lot of people, I guess maybe it’s their first time to come for the live class. So that’s why we are gonna give you a little heads-up. Heads-up means something you need to know. You don’t have to complain about everything because there are more people that have been here before. 很多同学第一次来上直播课，小麦老师想给大家提醒一下，你们不要抱怨太多因为很多同学已经上过这个课程，大家可以互相问一下。

 

Rookie 新手

 

If you are new here, I think it’s really wise for you to speak less and listen more. Because you have to understand everything, how things are working. 新人应该少说多听。

 

You can ask something personally and we can talk about it during live. 同学们可以多问一点更个人化的东西，我们可以在直播课的过程中一起聊聊。

 

小场景：前男友来搭讪，你可以这么回答：

My name’s Kathy King. 这种方式更加谦虚一点。

You can call me Kathy.

This is Kathy. 打电话的时候介绍自己

对方忘记自己的时候如何介绍自己：

Hey I’m Kathy King, you forgot me? We met earlier. We met the other day. You know in Beijing, do you remember? Yeah, I got it. You are the man looks so handsome. You are the one speaks great English. You are the one who asked Michael a question. I got you.

The other day泛指过去某一天

 

You look really familiar. 你看起来很面熟

 

实在是想不去来对方了，可以这么说：

I’m afraid we’ve never met. Have we met? I’m sorry I can’t remember.

Come on, hit me.

 

How are you? 这种方式不是好朋友见面的打招呼方式，实际不是很熟，见过一两次面吃过一两次饭的人。不是真的问对方过得好不好。

 

Hey Michael, long time no see. How’s EMF going recently? 真的问对方好不好会问具体的问题，而不是how are you. 熟人直接说事就行，不用问候。

 

中式英语指的不是中国人说英语思想是错的，是英语的用法不对。

美国人在被夸奖的时候也会谦虚，但是和中国人的方式不太一样，美国人一般会说you are so kind. You are so sweet. I don’t even think so. You really think so? Are you kidding me? Come on, don’t fool me.

 

Where else can I be? What else can I do? Just like usual. Same old, same old. 老样子

Don’t ask! 别提了！

 

That’s the way I wanted/liked. 这就是我想要的。

 

Night night. 小孩子常说的安安

If you can’t hold on till the end, you don’t start at all.

If you can’t stick to a relationship, you better not start it in the first place.

 

You better give me a good excuse, otherwise you stay outside.

美国人一般不太愿意指示别人做什么，更喜欢采用建议的语气：

Maybe you wanna turn to page 20?

Maybe you wanna send her a message and say sorry?

Maybe you wanna ask me for dinner?

A: Tomorrow, cancel the holiday, everybody go back to your post, 24 hours stand by. Are you clear?

B: Oh my God!

A: Hey, Patrick, what is that means, OMG? You got a problem with me?

B: Nononono…

A: Ok, that’s good. Do your job and shut up. And one more thing, I don’t wanna hear that OMG again. Are you clear?

A: OK, dismissed. 解散

 

小场景：一个人喝醉了，另外一个人给他一个耳光，问他：are you with me?

 

小场景：一个人快死了，另外一个人拍他脸

A: stay with me! Are you with me?

B: I was beside myself. 灵魂出窍

 

I was beside myself with joy/sadness. 我高兴地/伤心地灵魂出窍了

Keep up with me. 跟上我

A: It’s too hard. I can’t keep up.

B: OK, if you can’t keep up, you better hurry up. I’m not gonna wait for the weak. You understand me?

 

小场景：教练在训徒弟

What? You can’t keep up? Alright, if you can’t keep up, I will not slow down for you. You better hurry up, you understand me? This is the world that only strongest can survived. You hear me? There is no excuse for the weak. You fall behind, you die.

Can anybody tell me what the hell this is? Are you kidding me? 加强语气

 

It’s a pen. What else it could be? What do you think it is? 反问加强语气

 

I have nothing to do with that. 那个跟我没关系！

Why you ask me? How am I supposed to know? I’m not the right person you should ask. 我怎么会知道？

 

It must be Kate. Who else would love such ugly pen?

 

Is this a car? I can’t believe this is a car!

Oh my God, this is amazing. This is a car, I can’t believe it!

If you tell me this is a car I’m sure you are crazy.

What do you call it in English? What do you say in English? What’s the English word for this? What would American say?

 

两种提问方式：

What is the time?

What time is it?

 

BWH, Breast, waist, hip三围

Hip-hop 嘻哈（一种流行文化）

 

Size对应的形容词是 big

Length对应的形容词是long

 

同一个问句，不同的提问方式：

How do you call the cat? = What’s the name of the cat？

What is the location of the company? = Where’s the company？

What’s your personel preference about girls?

What is the size that fits you? = which is the right size?

 

Fit in 适合

I found it’s very difficult to fit in the new team and everybody is so different. I guess I’m the only one that feels that way. So I feel like the odd one out. 格格不入的人

 

小场景：表示自己不能合群

Hey Michael, why do you decide to leave the team?

I just don’t feel comfortable right here. I can’t fit in. I guess we are very different types of people. We don’t have a lot in common. So I don’t feel there’s a very strong chemistry right here? We don’t have full cooperation. We don’t work very well. So that’s why I decided to leave.
