@iwannaburnfat are you talking about short term weight loss? Because I definitely agree a severe enough deficit will cause weight loss no matter what you eat. But that is short term, I want people to have weight loss that lasts more than 10 years. The biggest loser study shows that our bodies don’t recover from such deficits, requiring us to continually reduce the amount we eat to maintain the weight loss. And that’s really not practical. For years only two programs showed significant long term weight loss... Bariatric Surgery and weight watchers. So I agree the science is there for daily energy balance in the short term, however focus on calories alone is short sided and lacks the full understanding of weight regulation required for long term weight maintenance. I use fasting mostly for my type 2 diabetics for whom insulin is most definitely the problem. In that population it is ridiculously successful. I guess my main purpose for posting this info is so that people don’t get pigeonholed, if you are an elite athlete your diet should look much different from someone trying to lose weight. |
