Atrophic rhinitis 萎缩性鼻炎 Syndrome of deficiency of qi and blood 气血虚弱证
Main symptoms and signs: 主要证候 Severer atrophy of nasal sarcolemma, nasal dischargewith foul odour or yellowishgreenish pus crusts, poor appetite, abdominaldistension, fatigue of limbs, loose stool, pale tongue with whitish fur, threadyand weak pulse. 鼻窍肌膜萎缩较甚，鼻涕腥臭如浆如酪或有黄绿色脓痂，食少腹胀，肢体疲乏，大便溏薄。舌质淡，苔白，脉细弱。
Therapeutic methods: 治法 Strengthening middle energizer to benefit qi,nourishing blood and moistening dryness. 补中益气，养血润燥。
Chinesemedicine : 方药 The prescription used is the modified Buzhong YiqiDecoction (Decoction for Reinforcing Middle Energizer and Replenishing Qi)composed of 10 g of Dangshen (Radix Codonopsis pilosulae) 10 g of Huangqi(Radix Astragali seu Hedysari), 6 g of Baizhu (Rhizoma AtractylodisMacrocephalae), 10 g of Fulling (Poria), 10 g of Maimendong (RadixOphiopogonis), 10 g of Shanyao (Rhizpma Dioscoreae), 10 g of Baihe (BulbusLilii), 3 g of Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae) and 10 g of Hongzao (Fructus ZiziphiJujubae). 补中益气汤加减： 党参10g，黄芪10g， 白术6g，茯苓10g， 麦门冬10g，山 药10g， 百合10g，甘草3g， 红枣10g。
Modification: 加 减 In the case of erosive nasal mucosa with fish-stench,add 10 g of Huangbai(Cortex Phellodendri), 10 g of Kushen (Radix SophoraeFlavescentis) and 6 g of Cangzhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis) to clear away heat anddry dampness; in the case of anosmia, add 10 g of Cang'erzi (Fructus Xanthii), 6 g of Xinyi (Flos Magnoliae) and 10 g of Baizhi(Radix Angelicae Dahuricae) to disperse pulmonary qi and remove obstruction ofthe orifice with aromatics; in the case of severer atrophy of nasal mucosa, add10 g of Honghua (Flos Carthami), 10 g of Taoren (Semen Persicae) and 10 g ofDanshen (Radix Salviae Miltiorrhizae) to activate blood circulation to removeblood stasis, dredge meridians and activate collaterals. 鼻粘膜溃烂，鼻气腥臭者，加黄柏10g，苦参10g，苍术6g，以清热燥湿； 嗅觉失灵者，加苍耳子10g，辛夷6g，白芷10g以宣发肺气，芳香开窍； 鼻粘膜萎缩较甚者，可加红花10g，桃仁10g，丹参10g以活血化瘀，通经活络。 TO BE CONTINUED。。。
