形容词 en -->变动词

• Her face brightened up at the thought that she could get in that lovely garden. 

      想到自己能进入那座美丽的花园，爱丽丝高兴得满脸放光。——《爱丽丝梦游仙境》

bright en = 动词 brighten，变亮了

其他常用的形容词 en构成动词：

short en = shorten 弄短，变短

The days are beginning to shorten.

白天开始变短了。

sharp en = sharpen 变锋利 (还记得转笔刀sharpener吗）

weak en = weaken 变弱了

soft en = soften 变软了，缓和了

名词 en -->变动词

• The Lion thought it might be as well to frighten the Wizard.

     狮子觉得最好吓唬吓唬魔法师。

fright本来是一个名词“害怕”，加了en之后就变成了动词“吓唬”

en作为后缀，加在某些名词后，构成动词

表示'由……构成的'、'由……制成的'。

其他常用的名词 en构成动词：

threat en = threaten 威胁

He became angry and threatened that he would go to the police.

他生气了并且威胁说要报警。

strength en = strengthen 变强壮，变得有力量

Swimming is good exercise. It strengthens all the muscles of the body.

• He has two big Chinese wooden tables.

     他有两张中式的大木头桌。

en作为后缀，加在某些物质名词后，构成形容词
