1.〔此处指 as…as 结构中的第二个 as, 它与第一个 as 相关而表示比较〕同…(一样…)。 

I am as tall as you. 我和你一般高。 

Mother loves her as dearly as (she loves) him. 母亲对她和他都一样疼爱。 

Mother loves her as dearly as he. 母亲和他都同样疼爱她。

2.〔反面比较时现在常说作 not so…as 而少说 not as…as, 但在 n't 后仍常说 as…as〕不如…那样…。 

Belgium is not so large as France. 比利时没有法国那么大。 

He doesn't work as hard as you. 他工作没有你那样努力。

3.〔表示方式、程度、情况等〕如同；像；按照。 

I work as others do. 我跟别人一样工作。 

Do as ( ＝ according as ) you are told. 叫你怎样做就怎样做。 

They will improve as they grow older. 他们年纪大一些，进步也就快一些。 

I remember it as it were but yesterday. 我想起这件事就彷佛是昨天发生的事一样。

4.〔as…, so … 的结构，也表示同等程度的对比关系，但书面语色彩比较浓厚〕正如…一样。

As a man lives, so he dies. 人有生也就有死。

5.〔时间〕当…时；一边…一边…。 

He came up as I was speaking. 我正在说话，他就来了。

6.〔原因〕因为〔语气比 because 或 for 轻〕；既然〔语气比 since 轻〕。 

As I am ill, I won't go. 我有病，不去了。

7.〔让步〕虽然，尽管〔词序倒装。语气比 though 强〕。 

Successful as he is, he is not proud. 他虽成功，却不骄傲。

8.〔结果、目的〕以致，以便。

He so arranged matters as to suit everyone. 他把事情安排得人人满意。
